    America’s Spiritual Heritage

    America’s Spiritual Heritage

“The Puritans understood 4 points of Government”

    Civil
    Church
    Family
    Self

They believed that all four of these forms of government came by a covenant with God.

Today, because the Church is not strong, the family is not strong, therefore self government is not strong, therefore we see the effects upon our civil government, it is weak and our freedoms are in great danger of being taken away.

It all started because America has been weakened Spiritually.

America is weak Spiritually because we do not know our Spiritual Heritage, we allow Secular Humanists to dictate to us the lie that America was not formed as a Christian Nation, and that the men that were used to found our nation, were not Christians.

They tell us that Religion has no place in American government, when in fact there would have been no American government had in not been for deeply Spiritual men who loved Jesus Christ and based our entire government on the Bible.

Fortunatly for all of us today, there is a public record of all of the events that happened at the forming of our nation.
You will be absolutely amazed at the amount of information that is available that confirms and establishes that the men that framed our constitution and signed our Declaration of Independence, were seeking to base the constitution and the laws of the United States on the Bible and Christian Principles.

  • On Making New Year’s Resolutions

    On Making New Year’s Resolutions

Paul said that he really wants to do right things. The problem was that when he sets out to do them he found that it was nearly impossible for him to perform them. Paul said that it was the sin that was dwelling within his heart that prevented him from keeping his resolutions.

Since it is so hard to keep our New Year’s Resolutions should we just not make any resolutions at all? Even if we did whatever we wanted to do, many of us have already have tried, that and it made us even more miserable that if we tried not to do them and failed.

The answer is to go ahead and make the resolutions, and determine to do them. Then pray and ask the Holy Spirit to enable us to perform all of our good intentions. Then when we fail, we repent and get back up and try again. We continue to try and be better, with the help of the Holy Spirit, for the rest of our life. Over the course of time we will get better at overcoming sin and temptation. Eventually some of the most troublesome sins will fall away. (only to come back when you least expect them).

Signs of the Last Days, Christians Accepting Sin

Signs of the Last Days, Christians Accepting Sin

2Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

After the recent news of Jennifer Knapp declaring that she was both gay and a Christian, the flood gates have opened and other Christian artists are following in their footsteps by declaring they are also gay. This morning I read an article in the liberal press New York Times describing singer Ray Bolt’s recent declaration that he has been struggling with his homosexuality for decades.
There are a variety of sins that every human being struggles with throughout their life, this writer himself included. The entire purpose of Jesus coming to earth to take the body of a man and become one of us was to demonstrate that righteousness was possible, and that sin can be defeated and is always forgivable.

  • America: Want God’s Blessing? Be a Blessing to God

America: Want God’s Blessing? Be a Blessing to God

I watched with great interest the president’s speech this morning on rebuilding the economic prosperity of America. It was a great and inspiring speech and contained many important and relevant facts that inspired me and is the reason that I am writing this post.

The key element of President Obama’s speech that was missing was the fact that America has been blessed by God in her past history because the citizens of this great land have honored and worshipped the God of the Bible.

The founders of our nation stated that it was impossible that this land could have come into existence if God had not willed it to be. The reason for our past prosperity and global standing as the most wealthy and powerful nation on the earth is because as a people, we have in the past honored God.

“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” - George Washington

    “The Revealing of Jesus”

    “The Revealing of Jesus”

The Book of Revelation Chapter 1, Part 1

    We live in exciting days!

The period of time that the Bible describes more than any other period in all human history, are the days that you an I live in. All of the Bible is about just one subject: Jesus. Who He is, Why He exists, What He Created, How His creation fell, How in His love He redeemed it, and How He will come again to remove those who love Him from the earth and then judge the world for it’s rebellion of Him.

  • A Chronological List of Events For the Last Days

A Chronological List of Events For the Last Days

This is the second in a four-part series on the Last Days. In this study we will look at a Chronology of the events from the present time in history, up to the end of time here on the earth, as described in the Bible

Two of the most asked questions from those who are interested in Bible Prophecy, are

“What is going to happen next in the world?”

“What does the Bible have to say about the events of the Last Days?”

Jesus said that the entire scope of all Prophecy in the last days, is centered around the nation of Israel. For almost 2,000 years the Jews were scattered all over the face of the earth. Being without a land of their own, they had lost their national identity and their homeland.

While Israel was without their own country, the Prophet Ezekiel wrote of a time in the last days when God would draw the Jews from all over the face of the earth, and place them back to their own land again.

Ezekiel 37:21-22 “Then say to them, “Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land…

The promise of restoration by the Lord, is that once the Jews are back in their own land again, they will be protected by the Lord and dwell there permanently. Once they are in their land, in the last days, the Lord will allow Israel to rebuilt their Temple again and re-institute the temple sacrifice.

Ezekiel 37:26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore.

Israel is often referred to as being like a “fig tree” in the old testament:

Hosea 9:10 “I found Israel Like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers As the firstfruits on the fig tree in its first season.

Jesus said that when we see the fig tree once again blossom and put forth leaves, that we know that summer is near. This is a poetic play on words that was understood by the Jews to mean that when Israel became a nation again, back in their own land, that the Lord’s return was near.

  • The First Amendment and Stupid Christians

The First Amendment and Stupid Christians

I know, the title of this article is a little offensive. I debated whether or not to write on this subject at all. The Supreme Court’s decision over the rights of a church to protest during the funeral of a soldier who was killed in Iraq has caused a tsunami of emotion.

On Wednesday of this week the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment of the Constitution does protect the speech of church members who do not have a brain.

The court voted 8-1 in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. The decision upheld an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment to the father of a dead Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son’s funeral.

  • If You Are a Traditional Christian, You’re In Trouble

If You Are a Traditional Christian, You’re In Trouble

Do you believe that the Bible is the Word of God? Do you pray, go to church and believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven? Then you are in danger.

A british couple were told that they are not “The right kind of Christians” to be foster parents. They are Pentecostal, Fundamentalist Christians who believe that homosexuality is a sin and a perversion of God’s creation.

When applying for a new license to give foster care to children, this Christian couple were turned down in their application because they were “Too Christian”.

  • Becoming a Vessel of Honor For Jesus in the Last Days

Becoming a Vessel of Honor For Jesus in the Last Days

As we approach the day of Jesus return, the world grows ever colder of heart, increasingly unconcerned about personal righteousness.

We live in a generation of people who do what they want to do, when they want to do it. Even Christians have lots of reasons why they don’t live a life of righteousness.

In the late 60′s and early 70′s when the “Jesus People Movement” was getting started, a person who came to the Lord, did so with complete intention of leaving all of the old life behind. It was assumed that the way that we used to live was not going to be the way we were going to live from now on. Habits, friends, even family members in many cases, were no longer a part of the new life we chose when we began to follow Jesus.

Whatever it was that would slow us down or hinder us from drawing as close to Jesus as possible, had to go.

When John describes himself in his gospel, he often refers to himself as “The Disciple who Jesus Loved.” At the last supper John is seen as the only one who is so near Jesus that he actually has his head on Jesus chest, and ear close to His heart. When Jesus was on His Cross in torment and torture, John was the only disciple who stood at the foot of Jesus Cross with Him.

  • Your Astrological Sign Has Changed, Not God’s Word

Your Astrological Sign Has Changed, Not God’s Word

People around the world awoke today to the news that their Astrological Signs have changed. Many asked what they were supposed to do now. They felt as though they had lost their personal identity.

Thousands of years ago when the name of the stars were called by their Biblical name “The Mazaroth”, people understood that the names of the twelve constellations contained the names of stars that told the story of the redemption of man.

It was at the tower of Babel that the names of these twelve constellations became corrupted and changed into a way to predict the future of a person’s life that today is refereed to as “Astrology”. What God intended as a display His glory and the message of redemption, satan has corrupted and placed before man as a way to know the future.

For more on this study in the 12 constellations, see the forthcoming study: “Gospel in the Stars”.

It is terrible when you base your whole life on a set of ideals that suddenly, and without warning are changed. Therein is the problem with trusting in anything that man creates, it is constantly changing.

The so called experts of astrology claimed that this sudden shift in the astrological signs is nothing new.

They claim that this has been happening for thousands of years. That is for certain. Everything that man says and does is constantly changing. That is why none of us should put any trust in what any human being says or does. We should be trusting in the word of our God

Sinulog 2011, Taking Steps Forward and Not Back

Sinulog 2011, Taking Steps Forward and Not Back

This is a unique year for myself in that it is the first occasion in which I have been in Cebu, Philippines during their observance of “Sinulog”.

My first response to the coming of this event in which the majority of Cebuano’s observe, was one of hesitation. Although I learned that the event was an observance of the transition that Filipino’s made from paganism to Christianity in the 15th Century, some of the article of their celebration were troubling to me.

According to the history of Cebu, on April 7, 1521 Ferdinand Magellan landed on the shores of the current Mactan Island, just offshore from the main island of Cebu. Magellan ordered the planting of the Cross on the shores of Cebu making claim to the land for Spain.

Magellan presented an image of of Jesus as a child to Hara Amihan, the wife of Rajah Humabon, the rulers of the island of Cebu. In response to Magellan’s appearance before them and as a witness of Jesus Christ to His death and resurrection, the King and Queen were baptized into the Christian faith.

The Queen Hara Amihan changed her name to Queen Juana in honor of the mother of Carlos the 1st, King of Spain. Over 800 of the dwellers of the island were also baptized on that day as Christians.

When Magellan presented Queen Juana with the statue of the baby Jesus, it is said that she danced with joy holding the image of Jesus in her arms. A repeat of this event is still performed in the Sinuog dance today by some of the women who dance during the festival. This dancing with the image of Jesus was the first “Sinulog” performed on the island of Cebu.

    Who Do We Pray To?

    Who Do We Pray To?

One of the most heated debates between Catholics and Protestants is the issue of prayer and who it is that we should pray to.

Let me say with respect that it is not the opinions of men or of a particular church, be it Catholic or Protestant, that we should use as our authority. The final word and only authority in spiritual matters and debates is the Word of God as found in the Bible.

There are many church traditions that are not Biblical and we cannot look to how long a particular act has been carried out in the church as being the authority for it’s use.

Errors come into the church when men allow their traditions to overrule what the Bible says. When Jesus spoke to the Pharisees He often scolded them for “Their traditions that had made void the Word of God.”

Matthew 15:6 ” … Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.”

Mark 7:13 “making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

We should be able to agree as believers in Jesus Christ no matter what church we attend, that the Bible is the authority in all matters, not the words of men. Jesus is the head of the church. He shed His blood to birth the church into existence and only He is has the right to call it “His Church.”

Matthew 16:18 “…I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it”.

A Man After God’s Own Heart

A Man After God’s Own Heart

Continuing with the study previous to this one, detailing the quiet spirit of a Godly woman, Peter then moves on to instruct the man who is married:

1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.”

If you are blessed to be married to a woman who has a quiet and gentle spirit and prays for you when you are not correct in your behavior, Peter reminds you that are not excused from having bad behavior.

To “dwell with you wife with understanding” means that you are aware that when you are harsh or abrasive with your wife or children, that you need to change that behavior and apologize quickly. It is completely inexcusable for any man who claims to call Jesus his Lord and Savior to be harsh with his wife or children.

Then Peter reminds the man of the house that he is “To give honor to the wife as the weaker vessel…”

To honor someone is to place them first in your life. To consider their feelings before your own. To place a person at the forefront of your mind and heart and to make them the object of your affection. To honor the Lord in our life is to do these things. No less important is that we give this same kind of honor to our wife, second only to the Lord.

  • The Importance of the Word of God

The Importance of the Word of God

Today, the importance of the Word of God has become greatly diminished. No longer do men look for guidance and direction for their lives from the Bible. They turn instead to the words of men and what is socially acceptable.

When Jesus began His public ministry, the Bible describes the fact that He went into the wilderness where He fasted for a period of 40 days. When Jesus had reached the place of intense hunger, that is when satan came to tempt Him. It is always when we are at a place of weakness that the enemy comes to bring temptation. When you are tired or have overworked. When you are hungry or discouraged. The enemy studies us and he knows when we have arrived at a place of weakness so that his efforts will be the most effective.

How many times have you been at a place of being so tired or hungry when something happened that was impossible to deal with in your fatigue or hunger? You reacted in a wrong way, and later regretted your words or actions.

Matthew 4:1-4 “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

This is really an incredible verse when you consider that Jesus is described by the Bible as “The Logos”. The Logos is the Living Word of God in the Greek Language. When satan comes to tempt Jesus in the midst of His intense hunger, what does the “Logos” tell satan? That man does not live by obtaining sustenance from food only, but he lives by every one of the words of God.

  • The Christian Church is Making Atheists

The Christian Church is Making Atheists

The population of Atheists and Agnostic’s is increasing at a rapid rate. The source of this increase; the Christian Church.

Concerning the Last Days Jesus asked when He returned to earth, “Will He really find faith on the earth?”

Luke 18:8 “I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

The reason that the church is turning out so many unbelievers is because people are not finding an intellectual and spiritual reason for believing the Bible and in Jesus Christ. Pastors and teachers in the church no longer keep the former diligence of studying and teaching through the entire Bible. Many pastors do not believe that all of the Bible is the Word of God, so they feel no urgency teach it to their congregations. If you go to a church where you receive weekly topical studies without much scriptural reference, then you go to a church where your pastor does not understand the importance of the Bible.

The fact that the Bible contains such a large percentage of Prophecy gives indication that the Holy Spirit must place great importance on learning, understanding and teaching prophecy to others. When a person understands that God spoke of things well in advance of their occurrence, it it going to affect how they view the Bible. If the Bible contains thousands of prophetic predictions in which the large majority of these have already been perfectly fulfilled with one hundred percent accuracy, a person is going to take notice that this must be the Word of God. Only the Bible can boast of a record of fulfilled predictions with perfect accuracy. No other book or publication in existence can boast of that kind of record of perfection.

  • How Do You Know You Are Saved?

How Do You Know You Are Saved?

If you ask most people who go to church, how it is that they know they are saved, they would have a variety of different answers. They might say that they believe they are going to heaven because they go to church regularly. Perhaps they might say that it is because they pray and read their Bible.

Many people misapply what a Christian does for what a Christian is. Praying, reading the Bible, attending church and giving of your tithe are all things that a Christian should do, but they are not what makes someone a Christian.

According to the Bible, a person is saved and going to heaven when they have received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What makes someone a Christian is Jesus. It is not what a person does, but what they believe that causes them to be acceptable to God.

How do you know you are save: The short answer is: Because Jesus Christ was crucified and rose from the dead.

Everyone loves to hear that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” People love to hear how much God loves them, but not many enjoy hearing at what price they were saved.

The doctrine that is missing in the church today is the total depravity of man. The fact that every person is a lost sinner with no hope of eternal life apart from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

The church of the last days is afraid of offending those who attend their services by telling them that they are sinners in need of a Savior.

To Be a Scribe or a Prophet?

To Be a Scribe or a Prophet?

When I was first called to be a pastor many years ago and began to study the scriptures sufficiently so that I might be able to teach them to others, the hours passed endlessly without regard to passing time.

I believed that in order to share the Word of God with someone else, I had to know it myself. In reality, I learned so I could teach. I studied so I might be able to stand at the pulpit and speak.

Some 35 years later I have learned that the true goal is not to study to teach, but to spend time in the presence of the Lord so I can report what I have seen.

A scribe does exactly this. He reads the Bible, and tells others what it says. A Prophet comes into the presence of the Lord and spends time in fellowship with Him, then shares his experience with others.

People do not need to know what the Bible says as much as they need to experience the reality of the God it reveals.

    The Blessing of Possessing Nothing

    The Blessing of Possessing Nothing

As you many know by now, Marissa and I returned from Bantayan Island to Talisay in Cebu a few days ago. It was one of the most fruitful experiences of our lives and the doors of opportunity continue to open every day since we returned. Already a great outpouring of support from those who have read our recent post on the new Ministry Opportunity on Bantayan Island have started to come in. We received immediate financial support within hours of the posting of the article and video on this web site, as well as Teach The Word.com.

To those who responded so quickly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loving help. We return to Bantayan Island on January 19th to give away your gifts to the people. We can’t wait to see their smiling faces and tears of joy as they realize that someone far away in a corner of the world they know nothing about, really cares about them.

In our friendship with the people of Bantayan Island, we were struck by the fact that they have such great peace and genuine joy despite possessing very little materially. When the Lord first created us, He sat on the central throne of our heart that had no equal with anything else in human life. There were no other distractions from things, there was no desire to posses anything else except God. He was all and more than enough to satisfy the deep desire of the human heart.
