The ‘Gap Theory’, Part 2: Reasons Against

    “The Gap Theory”
This theory tries to reconcile the long geologic eras of Evolutionary thought into the days of Genesis. Those who support this theory say that there was a “gap” of millions of years between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. They claim that this is where Lucifer fell from heaven, and God judged Lucifer and the dinosaurs living on the earth destroying them both. Then allegedly God took 6 days to fix the world back. However, not only is there NO Scriptural evidence to support this theory, it is contrary to the fossil record. It omits the humans, insects, mammals, and fish that are also found fossilized with the dinosaurs.
“Without form and void” Question: “Please explain what happened in the 2nd verse of Genesis 1:2. Why is the earth “without form and void?” Esteban (08/03/2001) Answer: The short answer is: Nothing happened. Some people take this verse to mean that when God says that the earth was “without form, and void” he was talking about some type of judgment on a previous race of creatures. They believe that this judgment left the earth in this wrecked condition. The problem is, there is no scriptural basis for this argument.

The Gap Theory Part 1: Reasons For

The Gap Theory Part 1: Reasons For

The doctrine of the “Gap Theory” is one of the most controversial subjects in Christian discussions concerning the text of creation in Genesis chapter one. I do not personally believe that anyone can prove the point for or against the Gap theory with the present information that we have on this side of eternity. I believe that the body of evidence lends itself to a great possibility that there was a gap between Genesis chapter 1, verses 1 and 2 of indeterminate time, but there are also many great arguments for the absence of a gap between verses 1 and 2. In a two part article here on Bible Prophecy Update, I will post first the reasons for a Gap in Genesis chapter one, followed by a second study detailing the reasons against a gap in Genesus chapter 1, verses 1-2. My encouragement to you is to be like the Berean’s described by Paul in the New Testament who listened to every study Paul brought to them, but then took the information they received and compared it to what the Bible teaches and made up their minds based on the facts of the Bible.
