U.N. to Appoint Ambassador to Greet Space Aliens

Mazlan Othman, a Malaysian astrophysicist, is set to be tasked with co-ordinating humanity’s response if and when extraterrestrials make contact. Aliens who landed on earth and asked: “Take me to your leader” would be directed to Mrs Othman. She will set out the details of her proposed new role at a Royal Society conference in Buckinghamshire next week.

The 58-year-old is expected to tell delegates that the proposal has been prompted by the recent discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting other starts, which is thought to make the discovery of extraterrestrial life more probable than ever before. Mrs Othman is currently head of the UN’s little known Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa). In a recent talk to fellow scientists, she said: “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day human kind will received signals from extraterrestrials.

“When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such coordination.”

Dollar Plunges After UN Call to Ditch Greenback

Dollar Plunges After UN Call to Ditch Greenback

The dollar plunged today following a United Nations report which called for the greenback to be replaced as the global reserve currency by the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights (SDRs). The dollar’s trend of moving inversely to the stock market has seemingly been snapped, with the Dow Jones falling over 100 points at one stage today. However, as soon as markets began to claw back losses, the greenback failed to follow suit, indicating that whichever way markets move, the dollar is in big trouble. The UN report called for “abandoning the U.S. dollar as the main global reserve currency, saying it has been unable to safeguard value,” according to Reuters. “A new global reserve system could be created, one that no longer relies on the United States dollar as the single major reserve currency,” stated the report, adding that this new system should not be based on a basket of currencies, but on IMF-controlled SDR’s.

    The E.U and The antichrist

    The E.U and The antichrist

he stage has been set for a new era in European Union history. Belgium’s Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy has become the first EU president while Britain’s European Commissioner Baroness Catherine Ashton took the job of Foreign Minister. Both selections are seen as a sign that EU leaders are still unwilling to shed any power in exchange for a real global presence. Here’s what a recent Time article said about the selections:

The duo may yet become household names, but today, most Europeans will be scratching their heads at the decision by the E.U.’s 27 leaders to anoint Van Rompuy and Ashton to the organization’s top two jobs. After all, the positions, which were created by the E.U.’s newly ratified Lisbon Treaty, were supposed to give a voice and a face to Europe on the world stage.

Obama May Put Americans Under World Judges’ Power

Obama May Put Americans Under World Judges’ Power

President Obama has dispatched a delegation this week to The Hague to explore issues involving the United States’ possible participation in the International Criminal Court, an organization critics charge could be used to prosecute Americans under international legal standards for actions that are not crimes in the U.S.

Andy Laney of the U.S. State Department confirmed the delegation is comprised of members of the State Department as well as the Defense Department. He said they were dispatched on a weeklong trip because of U.S. concerns over how “aggression” is defined internationally.

Who Will Be the New E.U President?

EU leaders are holding a summit meeting to decide on the three posts up for grabs after the Lisbon treaty was ratified by all member states — the president of the European council, the EU’s high representative forforeign policy and the secretary general of the European council. Former British prime minister Tony Blair and Jan Peter Balkenende, the Dutch prime minister, are now out of the running for the post of president but there is still no consensus on who should get the job. The candidates are:

    E.U. Rejects Palestinian Statehood Appeal

The European Union rejected requests Tuesday that it support a Palestinian plan for gaining recognition as an independent state at the UN Security Council without Israeli consent

Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, told reporters “the conditions are not there as of yet” for such a move. “I would hope that we would be in a position to recognize a Palestinian state, but there has to be one first, so I think that is somewhat premature.”

    U.N Defamation of Religion Proposal

    U.N Defamation of Religion Proposal

More than 100 organizations, including Muslim and secularist ones, have signed a petition against the proposed U.N. resolutions on the “defamation of religions,” which they contend will do more harm than good for religious freedom.

The “Common Statement from Civil Society on the Concept of the ‘Defamation of Religions,’” signed by organizations in over 20 countries, opposes the Organization of the Islamic Conference’s (OIC) proposal for the United Nations to adopt a binding treaty that would protect religions from defamation. The groups pointed out that a similar resolution adopted earlier this year only cites Islam as the religion that should be protected.

The New President of the European Union

European Union leaders will meet next week to appoint the 27-nation bloc’s first president and foreign policy chief - newly created positions designed to boost the EU’s voice on the world stage - the Swedish EU presidency said Wednesday.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said he has discussed candidates with other heads of state and government and expects leaders to make a decision at a special summit on November 19 in Brussels. Reinfeldt is leading the effort because Sweden currently holds the rotating EU presidency.

    One World Government?

    One World Government?

The New World Order came into being at 4:25 Tuesday afternoon. It arrived at the Capitol, until that moment the seat of American government, in the form of the stooped and bespectacled figure of Ban Ki-moon, who as U.N. secretary general is the de facto leader of what conspiracy theorists call the One World Government. One floor beneath the Senate chamber, Ban, a South Korean national, took his place behind a lectern bearing the Senate seal and spelled out his demands. “I would certainly expect the Senate to take the necessary action; that’s what I have encouraged the senators,” he told reporters as a trio of lawmakers stood at his side.

    The U.N. and Blasphemy Laws

    The U.N. and Blasphemy Laws

National governments should be wary of “over-legislation” when it comes to religious criticism and incitement, warned the U.N. special rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.

Furthermore, education and dialogue among religious leaders and youth of different faiths is more effective at reducing religious tensions than blasphemy laws, Asma Jahangir told the press Tuesday after presenting her latest report to the General Assembly’s Third Committee.

Jahangir’s comments were made as the General Assembly considers a resolution sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Conference that would criminalize words or actions that are deemed defamatory towards a particular religion.
