  • The Coming Peace Plan

    The Coming Peace Plan

From Daniel’s description of this new world leader, his rise to prominence will occur very quickly. The power that he will gain to enable him to unite the Israeli and Arab leaders to sign a peace treaty for “One Week”, an Old Testament catch phrase for seven years (Genesis 29:27), will come from the worlds ability to accept just such a man as a peace maker in a very short period of time.
What events could propel a man onto the world scene so quickly and enable him to make peace with two nations so diversely apposed to each other, in a way that no other man has ever been able to accomplish?
When I opened my Amazon Kindle Saturnday morning, to the news that President Barack Obama had won the coveted Nobel peace prize, I read with great interest.
The similarities between his rapid rise to fame and the world’s acceptance of him as a great “savior” and that World leader described in Daniel chapter 9 were incredible.

Long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem as a tiny baby, He walked the halls of heaven and ruled the universe with absolute power and authority. When He came to earth and began His public ministry at the age of thirty, He was following a carefully scripted plan for His life—prepared for Him before the foundation of the earth.

When His disciples encouraged Him to announce to the leaders of Jerusalem that He was the promised Messiah of the Hebrew scriptures—He declined with the words: “My time has not yet come.”

Jesus was waiting for the precise day when the prophets Daniel and Zechariah had predicted the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey and the people would hail Him as the Savior of the world.

These prophecies describe events of such specificity that a reasonable person would conclude—they are impossible to fulfill.

These predictions which describe the Messiah in such stunning detail are absolutely impossible to accomplish by any single person. Perhaps this is the reason that critics of the Bible attack its prophetic claims as ludicrous and unattainable. They are right—the words which the Hebrew prophets foretold regarding the Messiah could not possibly be fulfilled by anyone.

    …except they were

  • The Certainty of the Resurrection

    The Certainty of the Resurrection

The eyewitness accounts of the Gospels, preserved for us by thousands of copies of the New Testament, describe in great detail, historical events of such profound magnitude, that the course of the entire world has been altered.

Certainly the firsthand accounts of Matthew’s gospel should be considered more reliable than the opinions of any scholar today. If the leaders of the early church considered the testimony of the four gospels as authentic, we should have no valid reason to conclude they are otherwise. Evidence in our possession today of papyrus from Matthew’s gospel, dated within 28 years of Jesus’ death and resurrection, is compelling confirmation that the resurrection took place precisely as Matthew described it in his narrative. (See Prophecy 245).

Since the New Testament has been in global circulation for nearly 2,000 years, retained by the Christian church, and held as authentic by the leaders of the church—by time and preservation, the record of the New Testament must be considered authentic and reliable. The burden of proof to demonstrate facts to the contrary is on those who oppose and criticize these records, alleging that they are not authentic. Merely to state that the gospels are unreliable because they were written at some distance from their occurrence, or make assertions that the events in the gospels did not occur at all, is both disingenuous and unsupportable by any valid evidence.

On November 8, 2013, a massive category 5 Typhoon that some experts are now describing as so massive there is no existing category for such a storm (Category 7?), struck the Philippines with a force unknown at any time in the history of the world. The eye wall of this monster Typhoon was just offshore from Bantayan Island. The government of this Island estimates that 95 percent of the homes were completely destroyed. The number of dead and suffering mounts daily.

At just 6 by 10 miles in size, this tiny Pacific atoll is home to over 130,000 peacefull fishermen. Living in Nipa huts made from the natural coconut trees from the island, the 195 mile per hour peak winds of Super Typhoon Yolanda, also known as “Haiyan,” decimated every native structure on the island.

For the past three years, we have conducted a ministry to the poor of Bantayan Island, Philippines.

Today is Tuesday, November 12, 2013. On Sunday, November 17, we depart for Bantayan Island to truck in food and supplies for the desperate people of the island. Cut off from the world, no electricity will be available for up to 4 months. We received reports two days ago that in the neighborhood where we conduct our outreach to the inhabitants of the island, over 28,000 people are homeless, wandering the streets searching for food and water.

Now in the first siege of Jerusalem, Nebuchadnezzar took many captives. He took Jeconiah the king, and the queen. He took several of the princes. Among those princes that were taken to Babylon, was Daniel. So, this chapter was addressed to Daniel. Daniel no doubt heard it, read it, when it was sent from Jeremiah to Babylon. He was one of the princes that was taken as a hostage by Nebuchadnezzar. Of course we’ll be getting to the book of Daniel, as we move through the old testament, and so you can see Jeremiah, he’s writing the letter over in Babylon. Here is Daniel with these others who is receiving this letter from Jeremiah.

The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) and this is what the letter says, [So, it was from Jeremiah to those who were taken captive in Babylon, who were taken at the time of Jeconiah, and it was said by these two fellows, Elasah and Gemariah, and they were being sent as ambassadors from Zedekiah to Nebuchadnezzar. So, Jeremiah slipped the letter in and said, “Give this to the captives when you get there”.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

All Scripture is profitable! Knowing this, we cheat ourselves when we do not access every book, every truth, every verse, and every page of our Bibles for the promises and commands God has for us. Because every verse of Scripture is inspired by God and gainful to us, we should not pick and choose which verses we will read and study. We should not claim verses we like and ignore those that convict us! If we are to become mature disciples of Jesus, we must allow every Scripture to speak to us and teach us what God desires us to learn. Scripture enables us to evaluate the soundness of doctrines that are being taught. Scripture ought to be the basis for any reproof or correction we bring to another.

    Bible Study: Jeremiah 27-28

There in Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar had had another dream. Daniel, actually Nebuchadnezzar, writes of this dream. This is an interesting chapter in the bible, it is a chapter that is written by a pagan king. Chapter four of Daniel is actually written by Nebuchadnezzar. It’s incorporated in the book of Daniel, but it’s a very fascinating chapter in that it is written by a well, once pagan, king. Notice that he begins with, “Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, languages, that dwell in all the earth. Peace be multiplied unto you. And I thought it good to really send you my testimony, to show you the signs and wonders that the high God has brought toward me.” He’s gonna give a personal testimony of certain signs and wonders that God did for him. And he declares, “How great are His signs, and how mighty are His wonders. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation”. Now he said, “I Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and I was flourishing in my palace”. Everything was just going great, “And I saw a dream which made me afraid. And the thoughts upon my bed, and the visions of my head, they troubled me. And therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men, so that they could interpret this dream”, and they all came in and they couldn’t do it, and finally, “Daniel came in before me, and his name was Belshazzar, according to the name of my God, in who is the spirit of the holy gods, and before him, I told him the dream”. When Daniel heard the dream that Nebuchadnezzar had, he said, verse seventeen, “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent”, this is the purpose, “that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and He gives it to whomsoever He will, and He sets over it the basest of men.” “Now this is the intent of the dream Nebuchadnezzar, that you might know that God rules.

And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient. (2 Timothy 2:24)

There should be no quarrelsome Christians. The truth of God is within us; we need never be intimidated or frustrated by those who do not accept God’s truth.

At times people may disagree with you regarding God’s Word. Perhaps they question the way you say He is leading you, or they may challenge your faith in God. At times like these it is never helpful to argue. You will never debate anyone into the kingdom of God. You will never persuade someone that God has spoken to you by outarguing them! Only God can convince others of the veracity of His word to you. If you will allow God to vindicate you in His time, and in His way, a time will come when the wisdom of your choice will be evident (Luke 7:35). If you find yourself often quarreling with others, you need to ask God to clearly reveal your motives and to forgive you for your disobedience to His clear command.

    Bible Study: Jeremiah 26

You will remember that in the seventh chapter, when he was commanded to go to the Lord’s house to preach the message of the people, basically the message in chapter seven, was that they were not to trust in lying vanities saying, “The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord are these”. And we learn from the seventh chapter that the people had come to a place where they were trusting in the fact that they had the temple, and they had restored the temple worship. They were trusting in that as a divine kind of a protection from the enemies. They thought that as long as they had the temple and temple worship that they could live however they please, but God would protect them from their enemies, and Jeremiah was saying, “That’s not true. You’re trusting in a lying vanity. It’s not the outward observance of the temple that’s going to save anybody. It’s the heart that God is interested in”. Jeremiah was rebuking them for those kinds of feelings when they were coming to the temple of God thinking, “Well, here we are doing God a service, therefore God is going to divinely intervene, in our behalf against our enemies.”

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)

If you find that Christianity exhausts you, draining you of your energy, then you are practicing religion rather than enjoying a relationship. Jesus said that a relationship with Him would bring rest to your soul. Your walk with the Lord will not make you weary; it will invigorate you, restore your strength, and energize your life.

  • Prophecy of the Messiah’s Rule From Jerusalem

Prophecy of the Messiah’s Rule From Jerusalem

Upon the return of Jesus for His church at the Rapture, He will reward all of His servants who have served Him while He has been gone, including the Jews who did receive Him as the Messiah. Jesus said that having received the kingdom, He brought these servants before Him to give an account of what they had done while He was gone.

Jesus received the kingdom upon His death and resurrection. He describes this kingdom just before He goes to the cross to die for us and then be raised on the third day:

Luke 22:28-30 But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. 29 And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

The Lord will establish the kingdom that He received from the Father when He returns to the earth the second time, with His church. This will occur at the end of the seven-year Tribulation (Revelation 19). We see an indication of the kingdoms of this world finally becoming the kingdom of the Messiah, in Revelation chapter 11.

Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

Based on the faithful service that each servant gave to the Lord before He returned to take His church out of the world at the Rapture, He will judge our works for Him and grant rulership over a certain cities during His one thousand-year reign on the earth:

    Bible Study: Jeremiah 24-25

    The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon;

He is giving us a lot of things by which we can date this prophecy. First of all, it was the fourth year that Jehoiakim was the king. He was the son of Josiah. When Jeremiah started to prophecy it was in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah. Josiah continued for another nineteen years and then his son reigned for only three months when his second son, Jehoiakim came to the throne and he has now been reigning for four years. So this would be the twenty-third year of Jeremiah’s prophesying.

I point that out to you to give you a little insight into the situation. Here the fellow has been faithfully declaring God’s word to the people for 23 years. Now some of you have been witnessing to your family for a year and nothing has happened yet. And you feel very discouraged because it seems like you have been talking to them for a whole year and they are still the same. They are not interested in the things of the LORD.

But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. (Matthew 24:8 NASB)

When will Christ return? This question has been pondered much through the generations. The imminence of His coming provides the backdrop for everything the Christian does. Christ has not revealed exactly when He will come, but He has told us signs to watch for. The time of His coming is unclear; the fact of His coming is certain.

We journey on in Jeremiah 23. As you remember in chapter 22 Jeremiah addressed his remarks to three of the final kings of Judah. He pronounced the judgments and the reasons for the judgments that were to come against them. Now the final king of Judah is Zedekiah and it is felt that the 23rd chapter is addressed to Zedekiah.

Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

The word pastor is the same as shepherd. In the Old Testament it referred to the kings. As God intended that the kings should rule over the people with a shepherds heart. And that they have the interest of the sheep at heart. But this is not the case at the end of the kingdom before the Babylonian captivity. We were reading in the previous chapter how that the kings were taking advantage of the people. They were using their positions to enrich themselves. They were not seeking the welfare of the people but only their own gain. So God’s indictment for enriching themselves rather than seeking the benefit of the people.

Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need. (Philippians 2:25)

Come people know just what to say and do to encourage others who are going through difficult times. Their words give strength to those who are discouraged and comfort to those who are grieving. These people are sensitive to God’s voice. They are not self-centered or unaware of the struggles of those around them. They are the ones we immediately seek when we enter a crisis. They are welcome visitors when we are in distress, for their presence sustains us.

  • Prophecy: The Messiah Will Be the Son of God

Prophecy: The Messiah Will Be the Son of God

One of the biggest stumbling blocks for the Jews today in believing that Jesus is the promised Messiah is His claim to be the Son of God. It is their closely guarded belief that when the Messiah comes, He will be just a man like Moses. This would be acceptable to believe such a thing if the Hebrew scriptures had not clearly defined the Messiah as Being the Son of God, long before He ever came to earth as Jesus Christ.

For a detailed study on how the Bible defines the Messiah as being the Son of God as well as the hundreds of ways in which Jesus fulfilled every requirement of the Messiah, see Prophecy 50 and the chapter in this book, The Messiah will be the Son of God.

The Jews were offended by Jesus’ statement that God was His Father. Yet, this should have come as no surprise, since the Book of 2 Samuel makes it clear that when the Messiah comes into the world, He will be the Son of God.

Prophecy 50, 2 Samuel 7:14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son.

The New Testament clearly defined Jesus as being the Eternal God who created the universe.

Colossians 1:16-17 For by Jesus all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    The evidence speaks for itself

Jesus distinguished Himself with all the attributes that we would expect God to manifest if He were to come to earth. The identity of Jesus is made clear by the things that He has done. John the Baptist wanted to know if Jesus was the the Coming One predicted by the prophets.

This chapter might be entitled the tale of three kings because Jeremiah is going to prophecy concerning three of the kings of the last kings of Judah. To give you just a little bit of a historic background to help you understand a little bit of what Jeremiah is prophesying here. There was a king in Judah who’s name was Josiah. A very good king who instituted many spiritual reforms and got the nation back worshipping God again. Jeremiah began his prophesying during the reign of king Josiah. Josiah was strong. He rebuilt the temple and the nation became strong under his reign as was always the case for righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach to any people.
