Revelation Chapter 8 and Earth Killer Asteroids

Many people are not aware that on March 23, 1989, an Asteroid larger than a 1,000 foot long aircraft carrier came within 6 hours of hitting earth.

Moving through space at an incredible 47,000 miles per hour, had it hit earth the blast would have equaled one Hiroshima size detonation every second for over 50 days.

Designated “Asteroid 1989 FC”, this monster sized rock is so large that it belongs to a special class of Asteroid called “Apollo” that have orbits around the Sun that intersect with Earth’s orbit. Should an Apollo class asteroid strike the earth it would mean the end of almost all life. Millions would die on impact, but the real danger is from the ensuing dust cloud caused by the impact that would circle the planet, blocking most of the sun’s rays from warming the earth.

No Sun, no plants. No plants, no animals that feed on the plants. Global acid rain would scorch the earth, temperatures would plummet causing drastic polar type temperatures all over the earth. Billions could die in just the first year after the impact.

Massive Tsunamis over a mile high, ocean water reaching inland hundreds of miles, killing and destroying everything in it’s path.

Astronomers are aware of just 240 Apollo class asteroids but speculate that there may be another 2,000 earth crossing objects of 1 km, or 3,000 feet across.  It is estimated that there may be 100,000 Apollo class objects in our solar system that are larger than a football stadium.

An object a little over 3,000 feet in size would make a crater up to 10 miles across, and throw enough dust up into the athmosphere that the sun would be diminished for many years,

The massive 1989 FC Asteroid of 1989, missed earth by only 400,000 miles. To give you an idea how close this is, the Moon is about 238,000 miles from earth. The most disturbing fact about this near earth encounter was that astronomers did not even know about this earth killer asteroid, nor how close it was,  until eight days after is passed us by.

If this asteroid had come through space just 6 hours earlier, it would have been in the exact same location that the earth was, and killed almost everyone on the planet. No one even knew that it was here.

In the Book of Revelation chapter 8, there is a vivd description of these same type of massive asteroids striking the earth from the middle of the Tribulation Period onward.

Beginning at Revelation chapter 6,verse 1, the seven year Tribulation begins with the opening of the first seal by Jesus. When the seventh seal is opened, the first of seven trumpets are blown by one of the angels in heaven.

Revelation 8:1 When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Imagine complete silence in all of heaven for 30 minutes. Look down at your watch and notice how long just one minute is. Can you imagine the erie silence of heaven for one half hour, for what is about to begin?

This silence seems to be caused by the severity of the next judgment that Jesus is about to unleash on the earth. God does not enjoy pouring out His wrath. He would much rather that men come to their senses and repent so He can save them.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them: As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die…

This silence in heaven is an act of God’s amazing grace. Although He has warned that He is going to pour out His wrath during these seven years, even in His wrath He remembers mercy. For 30 minutes God pauses, as does all of creation in heaven, to give man one last opportunity to change his mind and stop the need for this wrath.

Revelation 8:6 So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

Revelation 8:7 The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

Revelation 8:8 Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.

Revelation 8:9 And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

Revelation 8:10 Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.

The vivid descriptions given here in Revelation chapter 8 seem to indicate massive objects entering earth’s atmosphere and striking the surface of our planet. The testimony of John, is that he is recording the actual events that he sees happening during the seven year Tribulation Period.

The purpose of the Book of Revelation is to show us what is about to take place on the earth and give us all time to prepare for it.

Earth has been hit by global killer asteroids in its past history. It appears by the 1989 near miss,  that the Lord has given us an advanced warning that we are about to be struck once again.

Today, every person alive on the earth has the opportunity to hear the voice of God and turn to Him. The time for pride and stubbornness is over. The earth and all its inhabitants are about to experience the outpouring of global disasters that will kill most of the people living on our planet. For the time being, God has continued to protect us from extinction level objects such as 1989 FC. In a short time the Lord will remove His hand of protection and the reality of John’s words in Revelation 8 will come home to us all.

For those who call upon the name of Jesus now, there is a promise to remove us from the earth before this all begins.  All those who turn to Jesus for salvation and the forgiveness of their sins now will miss these horrible events. Jesus has already paid the price for the redemption of every person who has lived on the earth. Each person must exercise their own free will and come to Jesus and ask Him to save them.

Once the news channels begin to report the disappearance of millions of people from all over the earth, it will be too late to miss these catastrophic events. When “The Rapture” happens, as described by Paul in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4:14-18, no one left on the earth will escape.

God has told us about these things before they happen because He loves us. He does not want anyone to experience the horror of massive objects that look like a mountain burning with fire, striking the earth. He has made provision for you to escape. The decision is yours now.

The day is far spent and the night is coming when no man can work. As a Father who loves his children warns them of impending danger, so also has has this Father warned us all, what He is about to do.

Matthew 24:25, 27  See, I have told you beforehand.. … For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Matthew 24:29  Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
