Revelation 20:15: The Lake of Fire

Revelation 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire

One of the questions that is often asked concerning the Book of Revelation, is “What is the Lake of Fire” described in Revelation chapter 20, and who is it that will be cast into this awful place?

Revelation 21:8 describes Those who will be in the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

1. The cowardly: the fearful gr. “Deilos” literally those who were afraid of loosing things that they have if they become a Christian.

2. The unbelieving: gr. “Apistos” literally those who have seen all of the evidence for Jesus. His love, his mercy, his kindness, but still refuse to believe in him, not because they can’t for lack of evidence, because they will not.

3. The abominable: gr. “Bdelusso(bdel-00s’-so) literally, those who stink! Those people who are consumed by their own perversions for sex, money, power or drugs. They have been completely polluted, like garbage or refuse.

4. Murderers: gr. “Phoneus(fon-yooce’) literally, those who take the life of their self or another human being for any reason, also those who hat another within their heart.

5. Sexually immoral: gr. “Pornois” where we get our English word “pornography” literally these are: adulterers, fornicators, prostitutes, sexually perverted such as homosexuals, and lesbians.

6. Sorcerers: gr. “Pharmakois” this is where we get our english word for “pharmacy” or “drugs” or “witchcraft”. Literally these are people who use drugs, practice astrology, tarot cards, ouija boards, psychics or those who listen to them.

7. Idolaters: gr. “Eidoloatres(i-do-lol-at’-race) literally, those who worship and serve anyone or anything other that the God of the bible. These are known by where they spend their time, their finances, where their thoughts are.

8. All liars: gr. “Pseudes” literally, those who do not tell the truth. Those who speak with the intention of deceiving. Those who seek to persuade others to their thinking by manipulation. Those who tell partial truths.

In the Book of 1 Corinthians, Paul is describing a group of people who will not be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven. The list included those who are described in Revelation chapter 20, called by Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 6: “The Unrighteous”

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 NOTICE THIS: And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified HOW? in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

All those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ and have repented of their sins have had ALL of their past, present, and future sins covered by the Blood of Jesus Sacrifice. There no longer remains any record of any wrong doing by all those who believe Jesus sacrifice paid the debt they owed. When Paul says “And such were some of you…” He is speaking of all of us who have come into relationship with Jesus Christ by faith and have had those former sins done away with.

Apart from Jesus Sacrifice, there is no forgiveness for anyone’s sin and no hope of eternal life or heaven. Those who reject Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for them on the Cross, there no longer remains any way to be saved. God provided ONE WAY that was very simple to understand and very simple to appropriate into your life; simply believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.

Sadly, all those who reject Jesus will find themselves at the judgment, with no way to have their sins removed and will be cast with all others who have rejected Jesus sacrifice, into the Lake of Fire.

The reward for accepting Jesus sacrifice is eternal life. Conversely, the punishment for rejecting Jesus sacrifice is eternal death in the Lake of fire. The decision that a person makes in their life while alive will be sealed at the moment of their death with no hope of a second chance after death has occurred. This is why it is so important to explain this principle that God has established to every person you meet so that they correctly understand what is required of them in order to have eternal life, and the consequences of ignoring or rejecting Jesus.
