Egypt in Context with God’s Plan for Israel

There is one possible scenario concerning Egypt that many have not considered. It is important to remember that Egypt, the Arab nations, and the people of Egypt are not the powers that decide the outcome of world affairs. There is still a great God who remains on His throne and rules the affairs of men from heaven.

The course of human history is in the hands of the Lord, and the final outcome of Egypt and the government that will lead the citizens of that nation are determined by the one who oversees every institution of man.

Romans 13:1-2 “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

One of the mistakes that man makes often is that he does not consider God in determining the course of history. There have been many great and powerful leaders in the past history who made the error of believing that they were the force that determined the outcome of their kingdom.

The kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar as ruler of the Babylonians was the greatest world power on the earth at that time. Because of Israel’s disobedience to God, Nebuchadnezzar was permitted by the Lord to come and capture Jerusalem and take her people captive.

The Prophet Jeremiah had warned Israel that if she did not return to the Lord in obedience that she would be taken captive for 70 years. Unfortunately no one in Israel listened to Jeremiah and the entire nation of Israel suffered.

In the first siege of Israel, many bright and promising young men were taken by Nebuchadnezzar back to Babylon to serve in his court. Daniel was one of these young men. One night Nebuchadnezzar had a dream in which he saw four beasts that greatly troubled him. Daniel was found to be able to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as he was directed by God.

God revealed to Nebuchadnezzar through Daniel that the four beast represented four world-wide kingdoms that would be present in the history of man. Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom was the first.

Daniel 7:3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.

What is truly amazing about Daniel’s prophecy here in chapter 7, is that he is accurately predicting the 4 empires that will exist in human history from Nebuchadnezzar, up and until Jesus comes and sets up his kingdom on earth.

1. The First Beast, is Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Lion.

2. The Second Beast, is Cyrus of the Medes and Persians, The Bear.

3. The Third Beast, is Alexander the Great, the Leopard.

Daniel is particularly interested in the 4th beast. This fourth kingdom puzzles him and frightens him. Nebuchadnezzar wants to know what it is and what it could mean.

The fourth beast is called the “Kingdom of the Beast”. This will be the kingdom of the antichrist that will be in existence during the 7 year Tribulation.

The Kingdom of the Beast will be led by the antichrist. He will come out of the Revived Roman empire that formerly existed.

The Babylonians were Conquered by the Persians

The Persians were Conquered by the Greeks

The Greeks were Conquered by the Romans

The Romans were not conquered by anyone.

The Roman Empire reached its Peak in 117 A.D. It was not until A.D. 1453, that last Roman ruler was killed. From the Bible’s point of view, the Roman empire still exists, it isn’t finished yet.

This 4th beast is made up of the former Roman empire.

Daniel 2:33-34 “Its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. (antichrists’ Kingdom) You watched while a stone (Jesus’ Kingdom) was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.”

Nebuchadnezzar, a pagan king, was permitted by God to see a future vision of the major kingdoms of the world. His was the first, the fourth kingdom would be made up of the revived Roman empire that will be led by the future world leader called “The antichrist”.

During this fourth kingdom, during the kingdom of the beast, Jesus will appear on the earth and destroy this fourth kingdom of the beast. From that point in history and on, Jesus’ kingdom will oversee all the affairs of men on earth and heaven.

Before Nebuchadnezzar was given this vision of these four kingdoms, he had a dream in which he saw a great tree that was chopped down leaving only a stump. This dream also greatly troubled Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel explained to Nebuchadnezzar that the dream meant that he was the great tree, and he was going to be taken down from power by God and driven out into the fields to eat grass like a cow for seven years, until he declared that God rules over the kingdoms of all men and gives the rulership of these kingdoms to whomever He chooses.

Daniel 4:23 And inasmuch as the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, “Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave its stump and roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze in the tender grass of the field; let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let him graze with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him”

Daniel 4:24 “this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king:”

Daniel 4:25 “They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.

The point of all this is that from the viewpoint of God who rules in all the affairs of men and rules over every kingdom of men, the downfall of Mubarak’s rule of Egypt is always in consideration of God’s plan and purpose for Israel. All prophecies for the last days center around the nation of Israel and God’s plan for the Jews.

We are living in these final prophetic days and the purpose of God for Israel will determine the direction that Egypt’s future government will take.

If God permitted the Muslim Brotherhood to assume control of Egypt and take that country in the same radical direction as Iran, Israel would be in great jeopardy. If the radical Islamic elements of the Arab world come to power in Egypt, then the destruction of Israel would almost be a certainty. Only an intervention by God could stop that destruction, which would in itself be an amazing event to witness.

It may be that God will allow the Egyptian people the privilege of electing a true democratic government who will bring peace and stability to Egypt and the entire region. The fall of Mubarak and his government is one of the most exciting moments in the prophetic plan of God for the last days.

It will be very interesting to see if God will allow Egypt a stable government that will be friendly towards Israel. Or will he permit the radical elements of Islam to take power in Egypt who will seek the destruction of Israel?

In either scenario, remember that God is in control. No man should make the mistake of assuming that they or their organization has the power to assume the government in Egypt. No one should assume that in either case, Israel’s security is in jeopardy. God is able to defend and protect Israel no matter who rules in the government of Egypt. Not a single hand can touch anyone in Israel unless the Lord ordains it to happen.

Just as Nebuchadnezzar made the mistake of assuming that he had the power to rule his kingdom and then paid for that assumption by eating grass like a cow for seven years. The final declaration by Nebuchadnezzar was that God rules in the affairs of men and gives rulership of governments, countries and kingdom, to whomever He chooses.
