The Book of Revelation speaks of a time during the Great Tribulation in which men will be tormented by demon locusts with a sting in their tails like a scorpion. Though the pain and suffering will be intense and severe enough that men will cry out for death to be relieved of the terrible suffering, they will not be able to did.
For five months, no matter how terrible of brutal the death of a person might be, they will not have the capacity to die and be set free from their suffering.
Revelation 9:5-6 “And they (Demon Locusts) were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. And their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.”
This is very interesting: The fact that a person cannot die. In fact the human body is so fragile, it takes very little at all to end someone’s life. When I took Black Belt Class in the martial arts studio where I practiced years ago, they taught us over 100 ways that a man could die from a very simple blow to his body.
During this time of Great Tribulation, nothing will take a man’s spirit from his body. The Lord will not permit it to depart.
Today scientists are still baffled by the fact that they do not really know when the time of death occurs. When does a person really die?
From the Bible’s perspective, it is when our spirit leaves our body.
The doctors watch the electrocardiogram machine and monitor the brain waves of a dying person until the signal that comes from the brain stops. When the green line on the monitor goes flat, the doctor pronounces that the person has died. It is at this point that all life support is stopped and the person’s body will take a few last labored breaths, then hold the last one. The Heart stops, all the organs cease to function, the person is dead.
Technically, if the spirit of the person has not departed their body, they have not died. Though all signs of life are gone, the spirit may stay in the body for hours, even days as it has been recorded. Certain individuals have been pronounced dead. The life support machines are turned off, the person is placed on a gurney and brought to the morgue. Then suddenly, the color comes back into the body, the person begins to move, sit up or to speak. The person who looked dead has come back to life, how?
The answer is that until the Lord allows the spirit of the person to depart, they are not dead and they can be brought back to life again. There have been many documented cased where a person has died, gone to the morgue for burial, then returned to life while laying the morgue.
A person can live for decades in a comatose condition, but the spirit does not leave. What is it that keeps the spirit there?
On the cross, Jesus dismissed his spirit.
Matthew 27:50 “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and dismissed His spirit.”
Jesus said that no one had the power to kill Him and release His spirit from His body, only He had that power.
John 10:18 “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
When Jesus had completed the task of dying for all of our sins, it was then that He bowed his head and dismissed his spirit. Literally Jesus told His spirit, “you can go now”. Can you imagine the kind of power over life and death that Jesus has that He can simply speak to His own Spirit and command it to leave His body, or to return to the body and bring it back to life.
This is why I only follow Jesus and not a church or a religion. Only Jesus has proven that He has the power to raise a man back to life once He has died, by simply speaking to the spirit.
Here during the time of Jesus wrath being poured out on the earth, we see a period in history when your spirit will refuse to leave your body. This could be a disaster, a person who cannot die, his spirit will not leave his body.
The real part of you is the spirit living within your body.
The body is only the method by which we can express who we are, our feelings, emotions, love and thoughts. It is the way we express ourselves to other people. When the body can no longer function the way that God designed it, then He releases the spirit from the body.
For the person who has given their life to Jesus as their Lord and Savior, the instant that their body dies, their spirit goes immediately into the presence of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
There is no lingering of the spirit upon the earth. There are no “ghosts” that are the spirit of departed human beings. The Bible clearly states that when a believer in Jesus dies, they immediately go into the presence of the Lord. When someone dies who has rejected Jesus as their Savior, there no longer is any method for God to pardon them. These go immediately into Hell where they will stay until the end of the age when they will be resurrected to stand before the Great White Throne of Revelation chapter 21. They will all be found guilty of rejecting the only way that God provided for them to be saved and will be cast alive into the Lake of Fire where they will spend eternity.
When someone contacts a spirit that claims to be that of a departed human being, they are actually speaking to a demonic spirit that is pretending to be their departed loved one. The Bible states that those who seek to communicate with these spirits are speaking to demons.
Here in Revelation chapter 9 we see that the during this time on the earth, the Lord will not release the human spirit from the body for 5 months. People will want to die to be relieved from the pain they are suffering from Jesus judgment of their rejection of Him, but they will not be able to die.
Death is actually a blessing to we who know Jesus.
Psalm 116:15 “precious in the sight of the lord is the death of his saints”
It is a blessing to die, to leave this world of death and suffering after our bodies can no longer function the way they were designed. This will probably be one of the most terrible times in history, when people cannot die.
If you don’t know the Lord, it would be a curse for you to live during this final seven years, an unimaginable horror. Better to make sure that you will not be here when the Great Tribulation arrives by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior now. Those who call upon the Name of Jesus for Forgiveness of sins will be pardoned and escape all the horrors of this terrible time of Tribulation.
