    An Inequitable Balance of Priorities

    Mr. President, Restrict the killing of Babies in the womb and we will support your push to restrict assault weapons. That would be a fair trade agreement.

    It seems to me that our President has a confused set of goals and an Inequitable balance of priorities. On one hand, he wants to stop the killing of children by assault weapons. On the other hand, he supports a woman’s right to choose to allow the killing of her unborn child in the womb. Statistics show that 9 out of 10 of the current abortions being performed in the United States are for the sake of convenience, or as a form of birth control. Only 1 in 10 are to save the life of the mother or for rape or incest.

    I think that many responsible citizens of America would gladly trade their assault weapons for the lives of millions of babies that are murdered every year. The government has the power to stop this injustice, yet it continues to hide under the veil of personal freedom, called “the right to choose”. What about the right of a child to choose to live? It is not freedom of choice to take away the choice to live of an innocent child. Mothers are stewards of their babies lives, not judges of whether or not they have the right to live.

    The Problem With Atheists: Babies Are Not Human

    One of the 25 most influential atheists in the world today has gone on record to say that he does not believe that a baby inside it’s mother’s womb is a human being.

    P. Z. Myers also said that it is birth that makes a baby a human being.

    Interesting, I wonder what the baby is while it is still inside it’s mother’s womb? If two human beings place their genetic material together could they produce anything else except a human being?

    I remember when my oldest son Rob was born some 30 years ago. I was the typical nervous father trying to remain strong and emanate confidence to my frightened wife. During that time they had just started allowing expectant fathers into the delivery room provided they had gone through the required classes.

    I looked at the birth with awe and shock as my son slipped his way out of his mother looking more like a Lizard than a human being. If you had asked me during that time if a baby was a human being I think I would have said “No Way”.

    Since that time I have been educated in the facts of child birth and have watched a second son be born. I know now that being red and green and yellow and covered in a slimy goo is a normal part of human birth.

    Doctors Perform Abortions When Baby Feels Pain

    With controversial late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart getting national attention over plans to expand his abortion business, a little-known 2008 study is gaining new attention. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion research organization previously affiliated with Planned Parenthood, released a study in 2008 titled “Abortion in the United States: Incidence and Access to Services, 2005.”

    The study found there were at least 1,787 abortion “doctors” in the United States but it revealed stark numbers when it comes to those who do abortions later in pregnancy. Of the 1,787, the study found that “[t]wenty percent of providers offered abortions after 20 weeks [LMP], and only 8% at 24 weeks [LMP].”

    Though the numbers seem small, that translates to at least 300 “doctors” who who will perform abortions after 20 weeks LMP like LeRoy Carhart and, of those, 140 willing to perform abortions at 24 weeks LMP. Mary Balch, an attorney who handle state legislation for the National Right to Life Committee, says the numbers are important because mainstream media outlets have attempted to make it appear there are very few practitioners willing to do late or late-term abortions.

    “In an interview with Colorado abortionist Warren Hern published online November 5, 2010, Time Magazine perpetuated the prevalent myth that there are few, if any abortionists who perform abortions late in pregnancy,” she told LifeNews.com. “The Washington Post’s Rob Stein also furthered the myth in a November 10 piece saying that Carhart is ‘is one of the few in the country to perform abortions late in pregnancy.”

    Americans saw a political milestone this month as more pro-life lawmakers were elected to the House of Representatives than ever before, but the nation also quietly reached a less joyful mark. In January, the National Right to Life Committee provided a new analysis of the total number of abortions done in the 37 years since the Roe v. Wade decision.

    The Supreme Court handed down its controversial ruling — allowing virtually unlimited abortions at any time throughout pregnancy — in January 1973. The NRLC analysis found that 52 million unborn children had been killed in abortions as of January.

    The analysis also found that the best estimate for the current number of annual abortions in the United States — involving both the surgical abortion procedure as well as the dangerous abortion drug RU 486 — is 1.2 million.As a result, the United States likely passed the 53 million abortion mark on November 1 — the day before Americans went to the polls to vote in a pro-life House majority and target President Barack Obama’s pro-abortion allies for defeat.

    Obama has done everything in his power to advance abortion and continue that pro-abortion legacy of the Supreme Court, including naming two more pro-abortion jurists in Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. He has also expanded that 53 million abortions by authorizing abortion funding in various instances and decreasing funds for abstinence education.

    In its survey of abortion numbers, NRLC goes to the source by relying on the Guttmacher Institute, the former research arm of Planned Parenthood, which receives numbers directly from abortion centers themselves.

    In September, Missouri became the second state (after South Dakota) to define life as beginning at conception and abortion as ending the life of a human being. An effort to include the definition in Missouri’s constitution failed, but Colorado will vote today on an amendment defining the unborn as “persons” from the moment of conception.

    “They do help the unborn, because whether those kind of amendments win or lose with the voters, they expose voters to the truth. It creates a discussion in the public about what is the unborn child? Are they human life? If they are human life, do they deserve the same rights as the rest of us—the right to live, of course, being the chief right among those? So I don’t believe whether they help the unborn is based on the success of the amendment, but rather does it cause a discussion, does it make people think about it, does it put the truth out there? And I think yes, it does all of those things.”

    WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman moved quickly Wednesday to advance Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagandown a so-far smooth road to confirmation, setting hearings for June 28. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said the schedule should allow the hearings to be completed before senators leave for a weeklong break in early July. In announcing it, Leahy was seizing the momentum building behind Kagan’s nomination just over a week after President Barack Obama selected her to succeed retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. “I would urge everybody to come to the hearing with an open mind, listen to her answers to those questions, and we will make sure that every senator — both sides of the aisle — has ample time to ask the questions they want,” Leahy said.

    Abortion Support Falling Among Young Adults

    Over the last 20 years, support for legal abortion has continued to drop among young adults, a new Gallup poll shows.In 2009, only 24 percent of Americans aged 18 to 29 said abortion should be legal under any circumstances, a drop from 28 percent in the year 2000 and 36 percent in 1990.
    Even compared to 30- to 64-year-olds, the young cohort is now less likely to support abortion, the Gallup survey on Friday revealed.
    Young adults (23 percent) are also most likely to say abortion should be illegal in all circumstances compared to their older counterparts, including those aged 65 and older (21 percent) — who have been the most conservative in abortion views.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Lawyers defending California’s gay marriage ban started the eighth day of a federal trial by producing campaign fliers and other documents showing some churches in the state opposed the ballot measure that established the ban.
    Stanford University professor Gary M. Segura spent his second day Thursday on the witness stand under cross-examination by David Thompson, a lawyer representing Proposition 8 backers.
    Thompson sought to undercut Segura’s earlier testimony that gays are politically powerless in the United States.
    Thompson used Segura’s appearance to show U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker that some churches in the state campaigned against the gay marriage ban.

    The U.S. Senate was expected to begin debate Monday on an amendment that would bar federally subsidized health insurance plans from covering abortion.

    Today many people feel that what was morally wrong a hundred years ago is acceptable today because society has changed and so also should social standards change.

    When a woman becomes pregnant at the hands of a rapist, or in the case where we have the technology to know in advance that a fetus has a genetic birth defect and we could terminate this life before it ever comes into the world to experience pain and sorrow, are these not valid reasons to exercise the option of an abortion?

The secretary also must make certain that at least one plan available in the exchanges not cover abortions.

    The relevant language says: “The Secretary shall assure that with respect to qualified health plans offered in any Exchange established pursuant to this title—(I) there is at least one such plan that provides coverage of services described in clauses (i) and (ii) of subparagraph (B); and (II) there is at least one such plan that does not provide coverage of services described in subparagraph (B)(i)”

    WASHINGTON (AP) — A chagrined GOP Chairman Michael Steele has told Republican National Committee staff to immediately stop providing RNC employees with insurance for elective abortions – an option that Republicans strongly oppose as Democrats try to pass a health care overhaul bill.

    “Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose,” Steele said in a statement late Thursday after learning of the abortion coverage from a news report. “I don’t know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled.”

    Planned Parenthood has been a part of Abby Johnson’s life for the past eight years; that is until last month, when Abby resigned. Johnson saidshe realized she wanted to leave, after watching an ultrasound of an abortion procedure.

    Prayer Campaign Helps Save 534 Babies from Abortion

    After 40 days of prayer outside abortion clinics throughout the country, 534 babies have so far been reportedly saved from abortion and eight employees have left the industry.

    “Together we have witnessed God accomplishing amazing miracles through His faithful people, and I really believe that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of abortion in our land,” said David Bereit, national director of the annual 40 Days for Life campaign.

    This year, 40 Days for Life events were held in 212 cities across the states as well as in Canada and Denmark. Participants held peaceful prayer vigils and held signs reading “Pray to End Abortion” and “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. —God.”

    Support for Abortion Slips

    Issue of Abortion is not as important to Christians any Longer

    Polls conducted in 2009 have found fewer Americans expressing support for abortion than in previous years. In Pew Research Center polls in 2007 and 2008, supporters of legal abortion clearly outnumbered opponents; now Americans are evenly divided on the question, and there have been modest increases in the numbers who favor reducing abortions or making them harder to obtain. Less support for abortion is evident among most demographic and political groups.

    The latest Pew Research Center survey also reveals that the abortion debate has receded in importance, especially among liberals. At the same time, opposition to abortion has grown more firm among conservatives, who have become less supportive of finding a middle ground on the issue and more certain of the correctness of their own views on abortion.
