Daily Walk: The Most Important Things In Life

James 4:14 “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

I have had the opportunity to be at the bedside of several dear souls as they passed from this life into eternity.

In every case the person who was dying did not tell me that they wished they had made more money in their life, traveled to more exotic destinations, or purchased more material possessions.

They all were focussed on one thing: The relationships that they had with their family and friends.

“I wish I had spent more time with my family.” “I Wish I had Loved more”.

Another interesting statement that I witnessed, was that even when the person who was dying was a Christian, they said that they would give all that they had to stick around for just a few moments longer. At the last moments of your life you will not care as much about how much you leave behind, as who you leave behind.

The Bible defines the moment of death as being a time when “a man will give all that he has to go on living.”

Job 2:4 “... “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.”

Ecclesiastes 8:8 “No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death.

The life that we have to live on the earth is limited and will pass away before we know it. Our family and friends are the most valuable possessions that we will have the privilege of enjoying during our short time here. We should enjoy every moment, every word, every opportunity to express our love to them.

We also have but one life to offer to Jesus in an expression of our devotion and honor.

All those who have known Jesus and were at their final moments of life, always stated that they wish that they had lived a life more devoted to the Lord. Jesus gave everything for us. It is fitting then that for the rest of our life, we offer back to Him a life of purity, devotion and honor in all that we say and do.

As we walk with the Lord today, let us count as precious what is, and what will be, most important to us in the final moments of our life. Let us enjoy and love our family and friends with all of our hearts now, before the days of opportunity have expired.

May we make an offering of our remaining life to bring glory and honor to Jesus by the way that we live our life for Him? When the day of our death arrives, we will have less to regret and more to look forward to.
