Daily Walk: Seeking His Kingdom First

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

It is a normal part of life to worry about tomorrow. I have never met anyone at anytime who does not worry about the details of their life all of the time.

That being said, we really should not worry about anything if we are following Jesus.

Jesus said that long before we ever bring our petition to the Father and ask Him for help, He already knows what our needs are. He watches us so closely and with such concern and dedication, that He has already planned out all of our needs to be met, for our entire life.

On many occasions Jesus began His sentence with these words: “Do not worry”

Matthew 6:25  “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life...”

Matthew 6:31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ “

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 10:19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;

To compensate for our worry, we overwork, over-plan, and over-stress.

Jesus’ solution for all three of these is to put Him first, seek to honor Him in all that we say and do, and then He will take care of all of the details of our life for us.

It is a paradox of the Kingdom of God, that whatever you don’t strive for, but simply trust to the Lord, He takes care of. Everything that we put all of our own efforts and energy into, seem to be filled with problems, anxieties and stress.

David seemed to learn this lesson well when he was being constantly pursued by King Saul. Every place that David fled, Saul was only a few steps behind him. Later when David wrote many of the Psalms, we can see how David dealt internally with the stress and fear that he must have felt in all those years of being Afflicted by Saul:

Psalms 91:1-2 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Psalms 25:1-5 To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; … Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths.  Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.

Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

The key to stress and fear is to remember that the Lord has already gone before you and planned out a good end for all the details of your life.

The Lord is more concerned with your character, than He is with your comfort. The bumps and turns in the road are all pre-planned to bring the maximum amount of growth in your life.

Instead of giving any more time to the worry and fear of the unknowns in life, while you walk with Jesus today, make a commitment to seek Him with all of your heart, and to honor Him in every way that you can today.

His promise to you is that all the things you are concerned about, He will take care of if you just make Him first in everything.
