Genesis 5:22,24 “…Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”
In this amazing story of Enoch, it seems that he and God went on daily walks together. As one would imagine, when walking with someone the conversations become more and more detailed as time passes. The Longer that we know someone, the greater our understanding of what kind of person they are. We learn what pleases them, what brings them pleasure, and what their heart is like.
On Enoch’s walks with God, after the passing of each day, and each walk taking longer and longer, with so many things to say and to hear.
On one particular day, God must have said to Enoch. “You know I have enjoyed our walks together more each day Enoch. We are getting closer and closer, and we are straying farther and farther from your house and getting closer and closer to my house. Enoch how about if you just come home with me and stay with me forever?”
This is the place that the Lord is desiring that each one of us arrive at. A closer and closer walk with Him over the course of time. As we grow to know Him, we discover what pleases Him. We find out what His heart is like and who God is as a person. When the walks become so intimate that all we desire is more of Him and less of this world, at the end of our earthly life He whispers in our ear, “Why don’t you just come home with me and stay with me forever…”
May each one of us endeavor to walk daily with the Lord and get to know Him more intimately as we read and meditate upon His word. May the things of this world slowly pass away from our heart’s desire and a deep and more personal relationship with our God be the ever increasing desire of our heart.
