Daily Walk: A Father Who Delights In Giving To You

Matthew 7:7  “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Perhaps as you were growing up, your parents said to you that they wanted to teach you to “Stand on your own two feet.” The formal definition of this term is: “To be independent and provide yourself with all the things that you need to live without having to ask anyone else to help you.” (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com)

Let’s face it, most of us want to be independent and be able to take care of our own needs. Good luck with that…

Despite our best efforts, life happens and things do not always go according to plan. Even if you go to college, pound the pavement and find a great job, save your money and invest in a 401k, your whole world can change in a single moment. The collapse of the stock market in 2008 and the loss of billions of dollars from American retirement savings, brought all of us into the reality of just how unstable and unreliable this present world system is.

We were not created to bear the stresses and anxieties that this life places upon us. The pressures of living today are extreme and overwhelming. If your entire world is bound up in the money you make and the things you can buy, if suddenly everything should all go away, so also will your hope and reason for living.

Jesus said: Remember that you have a Father who loves you. If you ask Him for His help, He will give help to you. If you are persistent and keep on knocking on every door you can find, a door will be opened to you. If you belong to the Lord and your whole life is wrapped up in Jesus, then you should understand that your Father in Heaven is going to take care of you.

As you make your walk with the Lord today, don’t forget to share with Him all of your dreams, hopes and plans. Lay them all before Him and then trust Him to bring to reality those desires of your heart that He chooses for you. Understand that He knows the future and that what He has planned for your life is far better than anything you could choose for yourself. If life throws you a curve, stand firm in your trust of the Lord and never waiver. Believe that He always has your best interest at heart and that no matter what this fallen world does to you, He will make it all turn out for good in the end.
