I am sorry, I just could not resist. I know this is supposed to be a “Bible Prophecy” website and that most of the articles on this Amazon Kindle Blog should probably be about the subject of Bible Prophecy, but I just could not resist changing the subject matter today.
This morning I was reading an article in the iPad App version of USA Today regarding the subtleties of Arizona’s new approach to immigration. I live in the beautiful state of Arizona, and like many of our residents, I am very concerned about the problem of illegal immigration.
The subject of the USA Today article was the fact that when an illegal alien desires to go back to their home land, for whatever reason that might be. Whether it was due to the difficulty of finding employment in a recessionary economy or just that they miss their families and friends. When this Illegal person wants to go back to their home, and as is the case in the case of Arizona, that means going back across the border to Mexico. That person crossing back into Mexico, leaving willingly, will be detained at the border and be processed by immigration officials so that they will not be able to enter the U.S. again for either 3 years if they have been here illegally for 18 months or less, or banned from re entry into the U.S. for 10 years if they have been here illegally for more than 360 days.
Now let’s consider this logically. If a person is here illegally and they know that crossing the border or taking a flight back to their home land will cause them to be detained and charged with illegal status with the penalty of not being able to return for up to 10 years, does it stand to reason that they would leave the U.S. voluntarily? Me thinks not.
How then could the United States government expect the vast majority of illegals to voluntarily depart the U.S.? It is not going to happen. If the United States is genuinely concerned about the problem of so many illegals being in the U.S. it seems that this type of law serves no logical purpose in giving those here out off status the desire to leave the U.S.
This writer thinks that the government should at least grant amnesty to those voluntarilly departing the U.S. irregardless of the time as an illegal, and grant them the opportunity to return to the U.S. by legal means as soon as the departing alien begins the immigration process.
If a departing illegal declares at the border that they are departing voluntarily, they should be granted amnesty. Otherwise how can anyone expect that an illegal person would ever depart voluntarily if they know they will be banned for up to 10 years.
In order for our country to really begin to tackle the problem of illegal immigration, they must think through the consequences of the current laws and how they affect the thinking of those they are to affect.
