There is a restlessness within the heart of every human being. Without being aware there is a longing for home, an internal journey of the heart where peace finds it’s fulfillment.
The world is dying to find that place so far removed from memory that hardly any soul remembers where it is located.
There was a time when man walked in a garden with his creator. He drew from Him the very being of his life. There was no lack of any good thing, nor the longing for something more. The highest need of man is not physical, though he spends all of his days seeking to satisfy the material part of his being. The real man is not his body but the spirit, which by this place in man’s existence it has become invisible and unnoticed.
The greatest achievement of man is that he might know God and glorify him with his life. This fact passing unaware, leaves every human being with that feeling of incompleteness and longing for something more. Every song of any popularity is comprised of lyrics that speak of a need to love and be loved, yet none can find it.
God is Spirit and only the spirit of man can know the presence of God. By many attempts man seeks to discover God in the material by self denial, penance and good works. None of these bring man any closer than the first day of his falling. It is only be entering into the inner veil of the Holy place of God’s presence that communion with Him is found.
By casual acknowledgement of God in a person’s daily life there is no real communion. Life is too busy and there are so many distractions that do not permit the entry of intimacy. When the lacking is realized and the depth of the soul drives a person to seek God with all of their heart, then His presence is discovered.
The atheist and the agnostic claim there is no God, or at least to these they feel that there is no evidence of His existence. Yet their very own souls testify of a flaw from within that none of their efforts or searching can satisfy. They are correct that they feel there is no proof of God’s existence, for they have reached the place past feeling where only what touches their physical senses is reality.
This is the fatal error of man, that he has lost something to which he has become completely unaware of and cannot sense despite all his longing. The presence of God has departed and man does not even know he has lost it.
Jesus spoke of a young man who came to the end of himself and rose up to declare that he would go to his father. In his brokenness and the self inflicted humility he gained by loosing everything materially, he was able to sense that the one thing that was not gone was God’s presence.
Even when all else is gone and we remain with nothing, the Lord has not left us. He has appointed a maximum of 120 years for each one of us to reach the place of groping for him through the darkness, until we grab hold of a hand in the night. When all else is gone, this is a very good day. For when there are no longer any distractions, there is also no longer any barrier.
The Bible states that at the moment Jesus commanded His soul that it should depart His body, the veil in the Holy place of the temple was torn in two. The inference is that there no longer remained any barrier for any human being to enter into the presence of God and find their longed for desire.
The way has been cleared, the barriers are removed, our sins are carried away by Jesus sacrifice, yet we are not all saved. By simple acknowledgment of personal sin and a heart of sincere repentance, the entirety of past can be made as if it never existed. The burden of sin and the guilt of failure can all be done away with in the moment of a whisper, yet the lips do not move and the heart is not yet broken.
What is the heart of man waiting for? What else can be done that has not already been done. When in the final day of the person who cannot find within their self the sorrow for sin and a need for cleansing, at last there will be no more time. The decisions made to reject the Love of God and His earnest, endless pleadings will seal the fate of the hard hearted and unwilling.
But God will be acquitted of all claims against his fairness. When the need for mercy came, He poured out mercy. When a sacrifice was necessary, He gave all He had, even His own dear Son. When there was no hope of redemption because the cost was so great, He offered up for everything He had, that which was most precious and valuable to Him, Jesus.
Come and fall at the feet of the pierced and bleeding Savior who even now waits for you to find what your heart is searching for. It is time to come home. Rise up and go to your Father, He is standing outside His house watching for you. When you take that first step He will run to find you, placing his robe of righteousness upon your back, and the ring of his authority upon your finger. The Angels will each rejoice and their will be joy in heaven over your turning to finally come home to the one who loves you so much.
