How Do You Know You Are Saved?

If you ask most people who go to church, how it is that they know they are saved, they would have a variety of different answers. They might say that they believe they are going to heaven because they go to church regularly. Perhaps they might say that it is because they pray and read their Bible.

Many people misapply what a Christian does for what a Christian is. Praying, reading the Bible, attending church and giving of your tithe are all things that a Christian should do, but they are not what makes someone a Christian.

According to the Bible, a person is saved and going to heaven when they have received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What makes someone a Christian is Jesus. It is not what a person does, but what they believe that causes them to be acceptable to God.

How do you know you are save: The short answer is: Because Jesus Christ was crucified and rose from the dead.

Everyone loves to hear that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” People love to hear how much God loves them, but not many enjoy hearing at what price they were saved.

The doctrine that is missing in the church today is the total depravity of man. The fact that every person is a lost sinner with no hope of eternal life apart from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

The church of the last days is afraid of offending those who attend their services by telling them that they are sinners in need of a Savior.

Narnia 3 Seeks to Appeal to Non-Christians

Narnia 3 Seeks to Appeal to Non-Christians

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – The studios behind the new “Narnia” movie are walking a tightrope in their quest to promote the third film in the fantasy franchise to a Christian audience and to general moviegoers.

“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader doesn’t open until Friday, but Fox and family-friendly producer Walden Media have been showing it to influential Christians for about a month, even before a finished print was ready.

That the studios have been reaching out to the faith-based community is an obvious strategy, given that it is based on the “Narnia” series from Christian philosopher C.S. Lewis.

But they also are going out of their way not to pigeonhole the film as something that will appeal just to the world’s 2.2 billion Christians. There are, after all, an additional 4.7 billion inhabitants of Earth.

Sometimes, it can be quite tricky.

Case in point is Liam Neeson, who voices Aslan, the resurrected lion in the upcoming film. The actor said at a news conference last week that his character doesn’t necessarily represent Christ. That might be news to Lewis, though, who wrote the opposite before he died in 1963.

Father of Communism was Once a Christian

Father of Communism was Once a Christian

Did you know Karl Marx was once a professing Christian?

Did you know the architect of communism later joined a satanic cult?

Those are among the shocking revelations of a classic book, by a heroic pastor and evangelist repeatedly imprisoned and tortured by a Communist regime, that is back in print and available through the WND Superstore after decades of collecting dust.

“‘Marx and Satan,’ written by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, is a book that changed my life and my worldview,” says Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND. “Along with Whittaker Chambers’ ‘Witness,’ it is a classic 20th century title that should be read by everyone who truly wants to understand the intellectual underpinnings of Marxism.”

Here’s an excerpt Wurmbrand found in Marx’s first book, amazingly titled, “The Union of the Faithful with Christ”: “Through love of Christ we turn our hearts at the same time toward our brethren who are inwardly bound to us and for whom He gave Himself as sacrifice. …”

Are these sincere words from an honest Christian man? They certainly seem to be. Marx’s comrade, Friedrich Engels, was also a believer, and became a conservative theologian. He wrote against the liberal theologians of his time who criticized the Bible as the absolute word of God, and he also wrote a number of very sound Christian poems and hymns.

Is the ‘Prosperity Gospel’ Missing Sin and Repentance?

Is the ‘Prosperity Gospel’ Missing Sin and Repentance?

When televangelist Joel Osteen — pastor of the country’s biggest church, prolific author and one of the most recognizable faces of U.S. Christianity — comes to Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena this week, he’s expected to attract more than 10,000 fans.

Osteen’s feel-good sermons broadcast worldwide on Sundays from his 43,000-member Lakewood Church in Houston. He is popular for his simple message, easily embraced by Christians and non-Christians alike: God is here to reward humanity, not to punish us.

But wherever this mega-preacher goes — Friday’s “A Night of Hope” is among dozens of his oft-packed arena gatherings that mix gospel-rock, worship, testimony and motivational speeches — so do questions about his increasingly popular brand of Christianity.

Osteen’s powerful sermons seldom mention the Bible in detail and are devoid of talk of sin and redemption. Is he a skilled evangelical pastor or a profitable self-help guru?

“If we are not careful, religion can just come off as rules, what you can and can’t do, what God is going to get mad at you for,” says Osteen, 47. “I believe God wants us to live a life of victory. That’s where people respond.”

    Spontaneous Commentary: Galatians 1:6-10

Paul was concerned that some of the visiting teachers who came into the Galatian church had already caused the believers there to turn away from the simplicity of Jesus Christ. to follow the complexities of men.

One of the problems in the church today is that man is always seeking to complicate the simple message of God’s offer to forgive all sin and grant eternal life, by simply by coming to Jesus Christ in repentance. Most of the mainline denominational churches have “traditions” and teachings within the church that cannot be found in the Bible and are unsound in their precepts.

Jesus scolded the Pharisee for upholding their traditions above the simplicity of the Word of God:

Mark 7:7-8 “…And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men…”

One of the largest churches in the world today that claims to be a “Christian” church, but does not believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible. The subtleties of their doctrines use the name of “Jesus” and speak of “His Blood as purifying them from their sin”, yet the president of their organization has publicly stated that “We do not believe in the historical Jesus of the Bible.”

Instead, their church doctrine teaches that Jesus is a created being, the brother of Lucifer. Jesus was a sinful man himself who was in need of redemption, and that he found his redemption and was elevated to the possition of “A God” through his obedience to the church and it’s doctrinal teaching.

Whatever Happened to the New Age Movement? Part 2

Whatever Happened to the New Age Movement? Part 2

As discussed in Part 1 of this series, the New (Age) Spirituality which is “paganism (the occult) in modern dress” continued to grow through the 1990s and has become even more prominent during the first decade of the 21st century. It currently can be found in the work place, hospitals, public schools, prisons, on television, in bookstores, and as we will be discussing, it has been welcomed by the Church with open arms! In 2 Corinthians 2:11, Paul took it for granted that the people of Corinth were not ignorant of Satan’s devices. Sadly, that can’t be said of many believers today. The discernment skills of many believers are either very weak or nonexistent. The combination of a profound Biblical illiteracy and lack of a literal hermeneutic; i.e., “God says what He means and means what He says,” has left the church wide open for New (Age) Spirituality deception.
Spiritual Discernment and the Mature Believer
Both Hebrews 5:14 and Ephesians 4:14 describe the discernment skills characteristic of a mature believer. Specifically, Hebrews 5:14 describes a mature believer as one who through practice has exercised vigorously their faculty of the mind for perceiving, understanding, and judging to discern both good and evil—truth and lie.Although there is a specific gift of the Spirit given to some, called “discerning of spirits,” as spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12:10, the discernment skills referenced by both Hebrews 5:14 and Ephesians 4:13, 14, are characteristic of ALL mature believers.

Whatever Happened to the New Age Movement? Part 1

Whatever Happened to the New Age Movement? Part 1

During the 1980s, Bible-believing pastors, teachers, and watchmen for “The Faith” stood up and began to prevail against the New Age Movement. By the mid 1990s, it appeared as if the church assumed the threat had passed. It was as if a veil of deception enveloped the church to hide the truth—not only had the New Age Movement not faded away, it was spreading exponentially into the very fabric of society. Ray Yungen, author of A Time of Departing, describes this cleverly renamed New (Age) Spirituality as “The Invisible De-nomination.”1 It has been hiding in plain sight for two decades. It is time for the church to remove the veil of deception and see this New (Age) Spirituality, which has permeated evangelical denominations, Bible schools, seminaries, Christian publishers and also the teachings of respected Bible teachers.
    Paganism in Modern Dress
Walter Martin evaluated these practices in his 1989 book, The New Age Cult, in which he states, “The New Age Cult is a revival of this ancient occultism. It holds historical ties to Sumerian, Indian, Egyptian, Chaldean, Babylonian, and Persian religious practices.” 2 The following occult practices (among others) are described in Deuteronomy 18:10-11:
