    The Prophecy of a Shepherd

    “I shall not want”.

    Once we have submitted our life to Jesus as “Lord”, He then can lead us. The results of being led by the Lord is that we will have no “want”. We will be content, and the longing of our heart for love and a purpose in our life will be satisfied. All the needs we have will be taken care of, as long as we keep the Lord first as Lord and Shepherd of our life.

    Though the Lord is our Shepherd, we will still suffer losses during our life. Those we love will die, friends will come and go, and material blessings will be gained and lost. There will be suffering, pain, and sorrow, but in all these things, there will be a knowledge that we are loved by God, and that we have a Shepherd who is caring for us, tending to our injuries, and comforting us in our losses. There will be no “want” for answers to life’s problems and difficulties, if we abide in and stay close to our Shepherd. There will be a confidence about us, though doubts will come, and fears will never cease. If the Lord is our Shepherd, we will always come back to a place of peace, knowing that God is for us and the He will never leave us or forsake us. In these things we will have no “want” for answers, for the Shepherd will be our abiding provider and will guide us through all of life’s perils.

    God Loves Us So Much, He Will Allow Us to Suffer

    It is worth noting that the some of common people perceived that Jesus was the LORD, while the religious leaders, and a majority of Israel did not recognize Him. The religious leaders were filled with their own self interest and pride. The poor and common people, were constantly seeking the Lord, hoping and watching for His arrival.

    It is a fact of life that a person who is suffering or undergoing a deep time of trials, is more likely to be receptive to Jesus, than the person who is experiencing an abundance in their life. We seem to be more receptive to the Love of God when our life is severely lacking. This is the primary reason that Jesus said that the poor are “Blessed” because the kingdom of God is theirs.

    Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

    Notice that Jesus does not necessarily say that a person must be poor to obtain the kingdom of heaven. He says that a person who is “poor in spirit” can obtain the kingdom of heaven. To be poor in spirit is to be humble and broken over the reality of sin in our life. To have an awareness that we are a sinner, and that we need a Savior. This kind of “spirit”, allows a person to come to God, repent of their sins, and obtain forgiveness and the blessings of eternal life, “the kingdom of heaven”.

    A person who has been living a life of material blessing, can also have a “poor spirit” that cries out to God for mercy and salvation, but it is much more unlikely that this will occur. There is something about being self sufficient in having enough money and accumulated material possessions, that prevents many people from searching for God in their life.

    The Hope of a New Year, Every Day

    The Hope of a New Year, Every Day

    We don’t have to wait for New Year’s day to have the hope of starting over again. We can wake each new day to a fresh start with our God, who eagerly desires to forgive us and grant us peace in our mind and heart. There is forgiveness in Jesus name. He died to pay for all the mistakes that we have made in our life. He offers relief from the sorrow, removal of the guilt, and hope for a better tomorrow.

    Whatever your present situation, the Lord understands how you feel. He is well aware of what has happened to you during your life. He knows about every terrible thing that we have said and done, and yet He still loves us so deeply. He feels compassion for us, because He knows the frailty of our human frame. He knows about the cruel and hurtful things that people have said and done to you. He offers you healing and understanding. All that we must do is come to Him right now and lay all our burdens on Him. Jesus can lift your sorrow, give you hope, and satisfy the longing of your heart

    When Bad Things Happen, People Turn to God

    Friday, December 14, 2012, 20 children and 7 adults were gunned down by 20 year old, Adam Landa in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Answers to why this young man committed such a horrific act are still not known.

    Every news agency, every newspaper and online news agency is covering the details of the shooting and searching for a reason for why so many died senselessly.

    When horrific and unexplainable acts of violence and the resulting deep despair and suffering that come from these tragedies, many people turn back to God for comfort and answers. Thankfully, no matter how far we may have been from God up to that point, He is always eager to welcome us and come to us in our times of need.

    It is in these moments without answers, and the intense suffering that plague our heart, that we often feel the need to return to a close relationship with the Lord. Tomorrow, it is certain that churches all across America will be filled by people looking for answers and comfort. After the tragedy of 9/11, and Columbine, all over our nation, churches were packed with eager listeners.

    The reason that we turn to God when our hearts are broken, is that we know inherently, deep within our hearts, that God is real, He cares for us, and that He alone can comfort us in these terrible moments of suffering.

    How’s Your Heart?

    How’s Your Heart?

    The heart is the seat of all our emotions. It is the place from which our love flows, and from where every experience of life is felt.

    Jesus said that the heart is also the place that we should be most careful when evaluating and structuring our life. For if we rely on the feelings and emotions of our heart, we will always be led astray.

    Whether or not a person can actually be saved, obtain and maintain eternal life, depends on the condition of their heart.

    Sacrificing Isaac

    Genesis 22:9-12 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

    If the Lord should call you to give up or let go of those things that you love most and hold dearly, could you do it? What happens in the heart of a person who is ready, willing, and able to allow to Lord to take away, as well as add to their lives?

    In our walk of faith, there comes a point when we will have to make a choice. Either to trust the Lord fully, or to faint and fail.

    When It Seems That God Has Not Heard Our Prayer

    When It Seems That God Has Not Heard Our Prayer

    You see, about 2,000 years ago Jesus died for me on the cruel Roman cross and paid for all of my sins. In that single act, God forever proved to me that he does love me. Now when I do not know or understand what the Lord is doing in my life, and I have these deep doubts and feel the pain of unheard prayers, I want to give up and walk away from ever trusting the Lord, but I do not. Why? Because I can look back to what I do know, when I don’t know what is happening now. God forever proved his love to me when he allowed his Son to die for my sins. He does not have to prove his love to me today by doing things my way, or answering my prayers in the prescribed time I allow him to do so.

    So, I will wait for him, and in time I am confident that answer will come. I do not need to fight this battle my way, because the Lord has already told me that the battles of our life are not by our power or might, but by his spirit….

    The debate rages on over what it takes to obtain eternal life. With thousands of religions in the world claiming that theirs is the “only way to heaven”.

    Upon a close examination of all religions, they have a few things in common.

    1. They require you to do some type of work.

    2. They require you to adhere to the rules of their organization.

    3. Their leaders are all mortal human beings.

    Only true Christianity is based not upon an organization but instead, on a person. Jesus claimed that He alone was the only way to heaven and that failure to receive Him as Lord and Savior meant a person would die in their sins.

    1. Christianity is not based on anything you can do, but what Jesus has already done.

    2. You cannot keep the law of God perfectly, no matter how hard you try. That is why you need a sinless Savior.

    3. The leader of Christianity is Jesus, the Eternal Creator of all things.

    The Lord Subtracts So That He Can Multiply

    I am one of those to whom the Lord has given generously and also mercifully taken away from, many times in my life. There have been occasions at the beginning of my walk with Jesus when I have not understood why the Lord took away things from my life and I became upset with Him and questioned His judgment.

    In July 0f 2002 I owned a large home in Northern Arizona that I had purchased as a fixer upper and worked very hard to refurbish for about 7 years. Suddenly without warning, a large wildfire swept through the canyon near our home and burned our house and 16 others to the ground. The houses in front and behind were not touched, while mine was completely destroyed and I lost everything that I owned in that fire.

    I stood in the ash heap of what was once my treasured possessions and cried for a long time. Even in the midst of the pain of that moment, I could feel the Lord’s presence and understood that everything was going to be okay and that He was going to take care of me and my family. I prayed a simple prayer to the Lord and told Him “Lord You give and You take away, but Your name is still blessed…”

    Don’t Just Do Something, Stand There

    If you are like me, one of the most difficult things to accomplish as a follower of Jesus, is to do nothing. We live in a world where we must have constant perpetual motion or we will get run over by the guy working hard right behind us.

    There are several instances in the Bible where the Lord has told His people to do nothing. Just wait, and watch.

    When Israel had recently been delivered by the Lord from their terrible 400 years of slavery in Egypt, God took them on a long and difficult journey through the desert. Every day that God’s people awoke they found that every provision and blessing they could possibly need in their life, was already provided for them by the Lord.

    While on this journey, the Lord provided what they needed, by supernatural means. The Bible records that even the clothes and shoes that they wore did not wear out in all of their forty year journey.

    What is the Cost of Eternal Life?

    What is the Cost of Eternal Life?

    Only Jesus lived a perfect, and sinless life and by that perfect life was qualified to offer His life in exchange for ours. Secondly, because Jesus is the Living God who created the Universe, His life is more valuable than anything else in the Universe.

    How can one man offer His life for all men? It depends on who that man is. If he was a man such as Buddha or Mohammed, Krishna or Joseph Smith who were all sinners themselves, their life does not have enough value to even save themselves.

    If on the other hand, the life that is to be offered is that of the Eternal God, who humbled Himself and took the body of a man. This life has eternal value. Because Jesus also lived a perfect and sinless life, His life is more than valuable enough to pay for the sins of all men.

    The Bible declares that it was the Blood of Jesus Christ that had enough value to remove the sins of every person who has lived on he Earth:

    1 John 1:7 “… the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

    There is not enough wealth in the entire world to pay the price that a single man owed to God for his sin. The price required to pay for the sins of all men is equal to the cost of the Universe, for that is what the value of Jesus life was when He offered it for all of us.

    If you want to know how much God loves you: It was more than the value of everything else in the Universe, or He would not have allowed His Son to die for you. Jesus was more valuable to the Father than anything else in this vast Universe, and yet He was willing to pay that price to save all of us.

    If a person would like to know how much God hates sin: All they have to do is to look at what Jesus went through at the Cross as all the sins of the whole world were heaped upon Him. Imagine how horrifying it was for Jesus, who had never personally experieced sin, to have all the world’s sin poured into Him. Jesus was “Made sin” for us, so that we could become the righteousness of God…”

    Spontaneous Commentary: Philippians 4:1-8

    Gentleness is a character trait that is greatly missing in the behavior of most people today, myself included. We are a society that is quick tempered, fast to judge, and very often wrong on both accounts. There was a certain gentleness about Jesus that captivated people and made them want to be near Him. When He was provoked, He did not respond. When misaligned, He trusted His reputation to the Father, caring not what men thought of Him.

    “Let your gentleness be known to all men”, speaks of not only being a gentle person, but letting the fact of your gentleness be made know to all men. In other words, this is not a person who is gentle once in awhile, but someone who is so consistently gentle, that over the course of many years they have developed a reputation for being gentle to everyone.

    If it were not possible to gain control over one’s temper and to obtain a gentle spirit, then the Holy Spirit would not have placed this verse in the Bible. The fact that these words are here means that it is possible to become more gentle than we are now, and to continue to do so consistently over time. Perhaps the reason that there are not more persons who have “a gentleness know to all men”, as Philippians 4:5 speaks of, is because many of us do not knw that it is possible to improve our gentleness as we practice it every day.

    Spontaneous Commentary: Romans 8:28-39

    Spontaneous Commentary: Romans 8:28-39

    Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

    The first thing to notice about verse 28 are the words “We know”. In order to understand that everything you might go through in your life is for a good purpose, a person must first “know” that they are loved by God and that He is aware of everything they are going through at any particular moment of their life.

    Whether they be bad things or good, for the person who is trusting in Jesus, they can rest assured that God is working all things our for a good purpose in the end.

    Many times we might fear that because we have made mistakes in our life that we have short circuited the Lord from being able to bless us. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, you can be assured that even your mistakes, God will turn them around and make good come from them, if of course you continue to walk after the spirit and trust Him.
