The Prophecy of the “Good Teacher”

The Prophecy of the “Good Teacher”

The term “Good” has it’s origin in the name “God”. Philo, a Jewish philosopher from the first century said that “God alone is good”, emphasizing the unique quality that only God has.1 The early Anglo-Saxon’s derived their word “God” from the term “good”, believing that all true goodness had God as it’s source.2

The idea from the beginning of human language has been that God is the source of all goodness and virtue.

By Jesus response to the young man who asks him this question: “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”, we may miss the subtlety of his answer in the english translation. When Jesus asks the young man why he is calling him “good”, it is due to the fact that all men during this time, also ascribed the term “good” only to God, from where the name “God” originated from. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. Any person who would read this verse would know for certain that Matthew was ascribing Jesus goodness to his belief that he is God, from where all goodness originates.

When we compare Matthew’s record of this event with what Mark wrote, we see a difference the helps us understand what is being stated here.

Matthew writes that the young ruler said: “Good teacher, what good thing shall I do…”

Luke writes: “Good teacher what shall I do…”

Prophecy: “Let Them Be Driven Backwards”

Prophecy: “Let Them Be Driven Backwards”

It is amazing to consider that although Jesus was laying down His life for us as a servant, He was still Lord of the universe, and in control over absolutely every event that we read in the four Gospels.

The foal of a donkey submits to His authority. (Matthew 21:7)
The wind and the waves submit to His authority. (Mark 4:39)
The dead submit to His authority. (John 11:43)
Death submits to His authority. (John 11:25)
Sickness and disease, submit to His authority. (Luke 18:42)
The demons submit to His authority. (Luke 4:35)
The devil submits to His authority. (Matthew 4:10)
All History submits to His authority (Matthew 26:56)
All the kingdoms of this world will submit to His authority (Matthew 19:28)

  • Prophecy: God Proves His Existence Through His Son

Prophecy: God Proves His Existence Through His Son

An amazing fact is that nowhere in the Bible does God seek to prove to us that He exists.

In the 1st chapter of Romans, the Holy Spirit tells us why:

Romans 1:19-20 …because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

First; God created each human being with an inner awareness that He exists (“what may be known of God is manifest in them” Romans 1:19). The evidence of this is universally seen all over the earth. Human beings have a desire to worship. They will worship many and various gods, objects, passions, and pleasures, even self. There is no other explanation for why all people have a desire to direct their affections so fervently towards something, except that God created us with a desire to worship. God made us for Himself, and it is through our worship of Him that we find our joy and satisfaction. Not until we truly begin to worship the one true God, will we find inner peace and contentment. People spend their entire life trying to fill up the emptiness they feel inside with everything they can. Only when a person comes into a personal relationship with God, through His Son Jesus Christ, is that emptiness fully and completely filled.

  • Prophecy: The Power of the Messiah Comes Through Holiness

Prophecy: The Power of the Messiah Comes Through Holiness

Very often, when a particular point is of the utmost importance to the Holy Spirit, we will see a principle repeated more than once. In stating once again that the Messiah will find His power to save all men through the Holy life He lives, we see just how important Jesus being without sin is to our salvation. As I have previously stated, if Jesus had yielded to a single sin throughout His life, He could not have been the Savior of anyone.

In order for Jesus to be the Savior of all people, He would need to be perfect, just as the Passover Lamb from the book of Exodus had to be “without spot or blemish.”

As Jesus’ life is examined under careful scrutiny, it can be seen that there was not a single failure on His part to keep the entire law of God perfectly. Jesus came to submit His life to God under the Law, so that by perfectly fulfilling the law He could transfer His righteousness to us, if we would believe upon Him for our Salvation.

  • Why Salvation is a Free Gift

Why Salvation is a Free Gift

Evolution is a “theory” for how life began, not a provable and tested fact. Why then do we allow the declaration that evolution is a settled fact to continue? Until evolution can be proven, other theories such as creation, and intelligent design should be studied, talked about, and taught as valid and plausible possibilities for how life began. Liberals pride themselves on being open minded. Except when it comes to matters of evolution, abortion, or accountability to a Creator. In these issues, those who think of themselves as being very wise and evolved in their free thinking, have absolutely no tolerance for any other opinion.

When we hear celebrities such as Bill Maher make statements that evolution is an established fact, it causes us to wonder just how smart many of these public figures really are. Some famous people seem to believe that because someone with the letters “Phd.” Behind their name says that something is a fact, that it must be a fact. Of course the reason that evolution is so widely accepted is not for it’s scientific truth, or established facts, it is because it eliminates the need for God and thereby allows a person to live their life anyway that they choose, and be free from guilt for their sins.

    One God, Three Persons

Many people struggle with the doctrine of the Trinity. Some do so because the word “Trinity” is not found in the Bible. The Bible never makes definitions for principles that it teaches, it simply reveals these truths to us in examples found in the Bible.

The Fact is that the Bible teaches that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, these three are One God.

If we study the characteristics of each of the three of the Godhead, we learn from the Bible that each are called “God”. There are hundreds of verses in the Bible which substantiate that each of the three are called “God”, a few are included here:

    Is Jesus the Coming One?

    Is Jesus the Coming One?

The identity of Jesus is made clear, by the things that He has done. John the Baptist wanted to know if Jesus was the Prophet, Priest, and King that was foretold by Moses as the Messiah. He asked Jesus “Are you the Coming One?”

Matthew 11:2-5 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Jesus said that His identity is linked to what was Prophesied of Him, and how He fulfilled these predictions:

Is the Father Greater than the Son?

Is the Father Greater than the Son?

John 14:28 You have heard Me say to you, “I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

For those who believe that Jesus is both Lord and Savior of their life, we understand that Jesus is God. We know that the Bible reveals that there is “One God”, who has revealed Himself in three persons. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. All three are God.

Why then does Jesus say “My Father is greater than I?”

It is important to understand that when Jesus came to earth as the Messiah and Savior of the world, He was doing so as a servant. In order for Jesus as the Eternal God, and the One who spoke the universe into existence, it was necessary that He humble Himself and take the position of a servant, in order to secure our salvation. The old testament speaks of the fact that the Messiah would come as a humble servant of God to do His will.

  • Internal Proof of the Bible’s Authenticity

Internal Proof of the Bible’s Authenticity

The internal structure of the gospels, proves their authenticity.

It is the contention of Atheists and Bible skeptics, that the Christians accounts of Jesus Christ, found in the four gospels are “fabrications”. Some acknowledge that a man called Jesus did live about 2,000 years ago, but there was nothing remarkable, nor miraculous about his life. Others would have us re-write the entire history of man for the past 2,000 years, claiming that there never was a person called Jesus Christ.

When I read many of the comments made by Atheist’s, I wonder if the people who write these negative comments have actually read and studied the new testament gospels. I wonder if those who write such words have considered the fact that the single life of Jesus Christ has shaped and changed the thinking of the entire world? If He did not exist, and if He is not who He claimed to be, then how is it that He has exercised such tremendous influence upon every facet of human life?

Just as we know that a person has been in a room, by dusting that room for their fingerprints, when we search the four corners of the earth, we find the fingerprints of Jesus Christ everywhere we look.

  • The Bible Is Not For Everyone

The Bible Is Not For Everyone

The Bible is Not For Everyone.

While I write these words they seem inappropriate, even wrong. After all, I have always believed for the past 36 years that God intended the Bible be read by everyone. In the sense that God wants all people to know Him and the only way that anyone can really know God is by His Word, the Bible is for everyone.

What I am hoping to communicate in this short article is the fact that the Bible is not identical to all other books. The Messages from God that the Bible contains are focused on a select few people.

When anyone chooses to believe in and follow Jesus Christ, that decision was known to God before the earth, time or the universe was ever created. Known to God are all things and He elects to eternal life, all those who He knew in advance, would chose Jesus and make Him Lord and Savior of their life. If a person never chooses Jesus Christ throughout their life, then God has not chosen them. I hope this principle can be understood. The sovereignty of God demands that every soul who makes it to heaven, does so by the foreknowledge and election of God.

  • Three Days in the Grave, Forever Lord of All

Three Days in the Grave, Forever Lord of All

1 Peter 3:18-20 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

The first thing that Jesus did after he was Crucified, was descend into Hell and preach to those who died during the flood of Noah.

Peter reminds us that only eight people believed the Lord at the time Noah was building the ark for 100 years. When the time came to enter the Ark and be sheltered from God’s judgment, only the members of Noah’s family actually believed God and went into the Ark.

It has been estimated by mathematicians, that at the time the flood of Noah occurred, there could have conservatively been over six billion people on the earth. Computing the explosion of population that occurred from the creation of Adam, to the time of Noah, people were living up to nine hundred plus years.

  • How To Lead A Muslim to Jesus

How To Lead A Muslim to Jesus

With all the attention on the Muslim Brotherhood in recent weeks, and the fall of the Mubarak government in Egypt, renewed attention has been directed at the Muslim religion.

What is the difference between Jesus message in the Bible and the message taught by Mohammed?

During the Muslim conquests, Christians and Jews were known as “The People of the Book”. Muslims understood that Christians had the scriptures in which they drew their purpose and direction for life.

The reason that the land of Israel is so important to Islam is that according to their way of thinking, a land that once belonged to Islam, even if lost to a conqueror, is still holy to Islam. They believe that because these former lands of Israel, southern Europe, Spain and North Africa once were lands belonging to Islam, they should be restored to the the rule of Islam.

According to Islam, it is Allah’s will that the entire world should be under the rule of Islam. Because of this, Muslims are very zealous and forceful in spreading the religion of Islam, either by peaceful means or by force.

To a Muslim, the Qu’ran is the Word of God that came from their prophet Mohammad through the angel Gabriel. There are 114 chapters in the Qu’ran that deal with moral and ethical teaching, as well as the day of judgment.

According to Islam there is just one God, and He has no Son or separate Spirit. Allah has the ability to be everywhere at once but he does not dwell within anyone or anything. Only Allah created and sustains the universe. He is merciful, just, sovereign and without equal.

  • Working All Things Together For Good

Working All Things Together For Good

satan is described as being the ruler, or god of this present world because the rulership of the earth was lost by Adam to satan back in the garden of Eden as described in Genesis.

When God created Adam He gave dominion of the earth to Adam to rule over it forever. In Adam’s rebellion of God’s commandment he lost dominion of the earth to satan, who became the ruler of the earth.

When Jesus came to earth and began His public ministry, the Bible records that at the beginning of His public ministry He went into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil for a period of 40 days.

One of the temptations that satan put before Jesus was to use His power as God to rescue Himself from his hunger and present desperate situation, instead of waiting on the Father to whom Jesus had submitted Himself as a servant on our behalf.

satan offered to Jesus a shortcut to the Cross. If Jesus would simply bow down to satan and worship him as God, then satan would bequeath all the power and rulership of the earth to Jesus. satan claimed that the rulership of the earth was his to give to whomever he chose.

  • The Bible Gives No Evidence For Life on Other Planets

The Bible Gives No Evidence For Life on Other Planets

Researchers today revealed that the “Goldilocks” planet called Gliese (GLEE-zuh) 581g that was said to be orbiting a nearby star, may not exist after all.

When the announcement was made that an “Exoplanet” that could be very similar to the earth and may in fact contain life, it drew widespread attention all over the world. For years Atheists and non believers have claimed that it is rather prideful of Christians to insist that human being are the only life form found in the universe. The truth is that the Bible reveals that the sole purpose of the Universe was to “Display the Glory of God”.

Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard.”

It appears that the glory and power of the Lord is so great that He felt it necessary to make a public display of that glory so that the doubts and minds of all creation on earth would be settled as to whether or not He exists. That attempt seems to have failed since there remains a vast contingency of those who claim that there is no evidence for the existence of God.

Isn’t it amazing that Creation itself is not sufficient to stop the mouths of all scoffers for the existence of God? If a truck fell out of the sky and landed in front of these, one would imagine that they would proclaim that the event did not occur and is a figment of the imagination. When Paul wrote the Book of Romans under the direction of the Holy Spirit, he sought to forever shut the mouths of all human excuses for why they do not believe in the one true Living God.

Romans 1:18-25 “… men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things…. who exchanged the truth of God for the lie..”.

The fact is that when God created each one of us, he “Hardwired” internally a knowledge of Himself inside of us. Much as a computer designer hard wires a BIOS into a computer that allows it to know what it is and what it’s purpose is. God made us with a knowledge of Him. This is why on the day of judgement when men proclaim that they did not know that God exists, He will show them that place inside themselves where He placed this knowledge.

The Problem With Atheists: Babies Are Not Human

The Problem With Atheists: Babies Are Not Human

One of the 25 most influential atheists in the world today has gone on record to say that he does not believe that a baby inside it’s mother’s womb is a human being.

    P. Z. Myers also said that it is birth that makes a baby a human being.

Interesting, I wonder what the baby is while it is still inside it’s mother’s womb? If two human beings place their genetic material together could they produce anything else except a human being?

I remember when my oldest son Rob was born some 30 years ago. I was the typical nervous father trying to remain strong and emanate confidence to my frightened wife. During that time they had just started allowing expectant fathers into the delivery room provided they had gone through the required classes.

I looked at the birth with awe and shock as my son slipped his way out of his mother looking more like a Lizard than a human being. If you had asked me during that time if a baby was a human being I think I would have said “No Way”.

Since that time I have been educated in the facts of child birth and have watched a second son be born. I know now that being red and green and yellow and covered in a slimy goo is a normal part of human birth.

  • Is Jesus God, or Just a Great Teacher?

Is Jesus God, or Just a Great Teacher?

It is surprising how many times people make the statement that “Jesus never claimed to be God.’

Many of the religions of the world such as Islam, The Jehovah’s Witnesses, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and others, state that Jesus Christ is not God. Even some of the mainline denominations of these last days have begun to state that the Bible nowhere claims that Jesus is God.

Anyone who makes such a remark has not read the Bible for themselves. Even upon a very simple study of the four Gospels it is clear that one of the major reasons that the Jews wanted so voraciously to kill Jesus, was that He had claimed that He was God.

In this short post I will bring out just a few of the many places in the Bible where Jesus Himself made statements confirming the fact that He believed Himself to be God.

Jesus claimed that He was equal with the Father:

John 10:30-33 “I and My Father are one.” Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”

“I and My Father are one.” In the original Greek Language it is clear that in Jesus statement that He intended the hearer understand that He and God are one and the same. The Greek word used here for “one” is “Hen”, which is “one in nature and essence”. Literally in today’s modern English Jesus would have said, “Even as the Father is God, so also am I God, we are one and the same.”

    Missing Heaven By 18 Inches

The debate rages on over what it takes to obtain eternal life. With thousands of religions in the world claiming that theirs is the “only way to heaven”.

Upon a close examination of all religions, they have a few things in common.

    1. They require you to do some type of work.

    2. They require you to adhere to the rules of their organization.

    3. Their leaders are all mortal human beings.

Only true Christianity is based not upon an organization but instead, on a person. Jesus claimed that He alone was the only way to heaven and that failure to receive Him as Lord and Savior meant a person would die in their sins.

    1. Christianity is not based on anything you can do, but what Jesus has already done.

    2. You cannot keep the law of God perfectly, no matter how hard you try. That is why you need a sinless Savior.

    3. The leader of Christianity is Jesus, the Eternal Creator of all things.
