It has often puzzled to those who study Bible Prophecy, just how it is that the antichrist could rise to preeminence as a leader in peace, uniting the entire world, in such a short period of time.
Daniel’s chapter 9 describes the beginning of world ruler who will later be termed “The beast” as follows:
Daniel 9:27 “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end of sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”
From Daniel’s description of this new world leader, his rise to prominence will occur very quickly. The power that he will gain to enable him to unite the Israeli and Arab leaders to sign a peace treaty for “one week”, and Old Testament catch phrase for seven years (Genesis 29:27), will come from the world’s ability to accept just such a man as a peacemaker in a very short period of time.
What events could bring a man on the scene so quickly and enable him to make peace with two nations so diversely opposed to each other, so quickly, in a way that no other man has ever been able to accomplish?
When I opened my Amazon Kindle this morning, to the news that President Barack Obama had won the coveted Nobel peace prize, I read with great interest. The similarities between his rapid rise to fame and the world’s acceptance of him as a great “savior” and leader of peace with the description of the world leader described in Daniel chapter 9 were incredible.
The necessity of getting out the door in an hour to lead a man’s Bible study this Saturday morning, did not permit me to finish the similar headlines in my Kindle edition of The New York Times, Washington Post, Arizona Republic and Wall Street Journal. I slid the swith at the top of the Kindle to return it to its sleep mode, and much to my surprise, the screen saver loaded the depiction of Ophiuchus with his foot crushing Scorpio beneath.
Of course, those familiar with the very first prophecy in the Bible; Genesis 3:15, where the Savior is spoken of as crushing the serpent with his heel, can relate my extraordinary feeling that this was a strange happenstance in light of my recent observations of President Obama and the world leader described in Daniel chapter 9.
