365 Prophecies: Prophecy 81
The Messiah will be stripped of His clothing and be naked before the world.
Old Testament Prediction:
Psalms 22:17-18 “I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.”
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:35 “Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments…”
Application:
Before Jesus was raised into the air on the cross, they removed all of his garments. In the following prophecy we will see that the soldiers will cast lots, or gamble for Jesus outer robe.
Every aspect of crucifixion was designed to disgrace and humiliate the condemned. If it were not enough to be nailed to a cross before the whole world to see, the victim was also placed on the cross completely naked. The humiliation that Jesus must have felt, to not only be publicly accused of crimes he did not commit, but to also be displayed naked before his mockers was the ultimate humiliation. Jesus was willing to undergo this horrible torment because he loves you so much. Whatever disgrace he felt while hanging naked before the world, was worth the cost to Jesus, knowing that by his suffering you would have the opportunity to be with him in heaven forever.
Hebrews 12:2 “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
