John 4:36-38 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: “One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
During our day to day tasks to earn a living for ourselves and our families, we might forget that there are those true wages that are being stored up for us in a place unseen. From the moment that we surrender our life to Jesus Christ, we begin to earn an eternal reward that neither moth nor rust can destroy.
Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Every day, whether known to us or passing unaware, we leave a witness of what Jesus is like. As people hear the words that come from our mouth, see our actions, and witness our demeanor, they are gaining understanding of what it is like to follow Jesus. If they see a person who has speech filled with grace, actions that are kind, thoughtful and caring, they begin to understand that coming into a relationship with Jesus means that He will begin to change us into better people.
We are a living testament to who Jesus is and what He can do inside a person who is totally surrendered to Him. For many people, they will never read a Bible but they will see your life as you claim to be a follower of Jesus. What they learn about Jesus from your example can either lead them closer to Jesus or push them away.
Jesus said that by the way that we live our lives, we are earning wages and gathering fruit for eternal life. We may sow seeds of interest and the Word of God by our graceful and merciful speech and actions. We may reap the new souls of eternal life in those we actually lead to Jesus Christ. Whether sowing or reaping, we all participate together in the earning of rewards that are being stored up for us in heaven.
When Jesus returns for us from heaven at the Rapture, He will take us back to heaven where we will receive rewards or “Crowns” for the life we have lived for Him while still in our mortal bodies here on earth.
If we did not take serious the way we lived our life and were not a proper witness for Jesus, we will suffer the loss of reward once we are in heaven. If we understood and took serious this incredible calling and lived in such a way that our life brought glory and honor to Jesus, then He will give us abundant reward.
On the day that each person is called before the Lord to give an account of their life, we will realize the importance of this fact as it is revealed in the Bible. There are many today who do not give any thought to how their life is viewed before others, nor what the Lord sees in us, whether pleasing or not.
Those who take this calling to heart and begin to live their lives for Jesus so that all the attention is placed on Him, will be richly rewarded by the Lord at the day of reward promised by Jesus. In John chapter 4:36-38, Jesus gives us a glimpse of these rewards and the fact that those who labor in their mortal lives for Jesus glory, will be rewarded later by Him.
Today as we walk with our Lord, may we display a countenance, a personality and purpose in our life that reflects the character and nature of Jesus. May people hear from our lips gracious words of love and encouragement. May they see by our changed life that following Jesus will mean a new life of goodness and righteousness. May we look to the near future when Jesus will call us before Him to congratulate us as “Good and Faithful Servants”, who have done a job well.
Matthew 25:21 His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
