Luke 11:5-13 And Jesus said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you.’? I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
If you are like myself, there are moments in life when you desperately need help or answers from the Lord. We come to Him in prayer, asking for something to be done that is pressing hard against our heart and mind. We wonder if He hears us. We ponder whether our request is sufficient to be noticed or acknowledged by such a great God who has so many other important things to do.
The good news is that our God cares about all the seemingly insignificant matters of our life. He is never too busy, nor are the needs of our life passed off as not important to Him. Everything that you are concerned about or need, when brought to Him in prayer, are important enough to merit His immediate attention.
The Key to receiving answers to your prayerful needs is persistence.
Jesus gives us an example of a man who has a friend, to whom he comes with a request. The friend is already in bed with the rest of his family. During the time this was written, the entire family slept in one common area. To get up and light a lamp would wake the entire household. This friend was not willing to wake his family to help his friend in need.
However, when the friend persistently continued to ask for his help, though it might wake his entire house, he will get up and meet the man’s need for help.
Jesus described the fact that if a man born a sinner, living on the earth, will answer a plea for help by persistent action, even more so will our heavenly Father rise up to meet our needs when we persistently come to Him in prayer.
The key to receiving answers to your prayerful requests is persistence.
If you have a need today, continue to bring it to the Lord everyday until He brings the answer to you. His will for your life is that you receive every good thing that you ask Him for. He will not however, give anything to you that will bring harm to your spiritual or physical life. If by the persistent action of your prayers the answer is “No”, you can have the confidence that what you have requested would not be beneficial to you.
In our walk with the Lord today, whatever the needs of our life might be, we should increase our persistence for those things in prayer. In most cases, the Lord will answer us speedily and provide those things that we are asking Him for, that are needful for our life. He delights when you continue to ask Him humbly and in sincerity. He takes notice that you have faith to continue to come to Him and prevail until He brings what you need. Do not be discouraged or dismayed if the answer has not yet come. Continue today, tomorrow and everyday after until He rends the heavens and delivers the answer to you.
