    Asteroid 2011 AG5 on a Collision Course With Earth

    Those who study Bible Prophecy are always interested in the occurrences of Near Earth Objects that will pass within close proximity to earth. The potential for massive destruction and loss of human life, in the event of an impact by one of these larger Asteroids, gives great cause for concern.

    Asteroid 2011 AG5, is one of the most recent giants that has given scientists alarm. At more than 460 feet wide, this space rock is on a potential collision course with Earth in the year 2040. The estimated destructive power of an impact with Earth by this asteroid is about 105 Megatons of TNT, or approximately 2 larger Thermonuclear Detonations.

    In reminiscence of the recent movies “Armageddon” and “Deep Impact”, scientists have already given such great concern to this asteroid that they are planning how to deflect it.

    Discovered in January of 2011, we are only now learning of this dangerous asteroid from the scientific community. It makes us wonder if a planet killer were ever on a direct course with earth, if we would ever know about such a threat, before it would happen.

    Nuclear Meltdown and the Book of Revelation

    Jeremiah 23:15 “Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; ‘Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, And make them drink the water of gall’ ”

    The term “Wormwood” is connected with judgment from God. It is not a mistake that the Holy Spirit chose this term here in describing this third objects contact with the fresh water supply of the earth.

    What intrigues me at this point is that the term “Wormwood” has also been used in describing nuclear events on the earth.

    The Russian word for “Wormwood” is “Chernobyl”

    The worst nuclear reactor meltdown tragedy in history happened at the Chernobyl Nuclear Facility on April 26, 1986 at 1:23 am in the Ukraine, Russia. Reactor four of the facility suffered a catastrophic increase in power that led to an explosion of the core and nuclear meltdown of the reactor. The explosion dispersed large quantities of nuclear material into the earth’s atmosphere and turned the fresh water supplies for hundreds of miles around Chernobyl “Bitter” or Poisonous and undrinkable.

    Isn’t it interesting that the term “Wormwood ” in the Book of Revelation is used to describe an event of the last days that has a long Biblical history of meaning “Judgement”.

    Many people are not aware that on March 23, 1989, an Asteroid larger than a 1,000 foot long aircraft carrier came within 6 hours of hitting earth.
    Moving through space at an incredible 47,000 miles per hour, had it hit earth the blast would have equaled one Hiroshima size detonation every second for over 50 days.

    Designated “Asteroid 1989 FC”, this monster sized rock is so large that it belongs to a special class of Asteroid called “Apollo” that have orbits around the Sun that intersect with Earth’s orbit. Should an Apollo class asteroid strike the earth it would mean the end of almost all life. Millions would die on impact, but the real danger is from the ensuing dust cloud caused by the impact that would circle the planet, blocking most of the sun’s rays from warming the earth.

    No Sun, no plants. No plants, no animals that feed on the plants. Global acid rain would scorch the earth, temperatures would plummet causing drastic polar type temperatures all over the earth. Billions could die in just the first year after the impact.

    Earthquakes, heat waves, floods, volcanoes, super typhoons, blizzards, landslides and droughts killed at least a quarter million people in 2010 — the deadliest year in more than a generation. More people were killed worldwide by natural disasters this year than have been killed in terrorism attacks in the past 40 years combined.

    “It just seemed like it was back-to-back and it came in waves,” said Craig Fugate, who heads the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency. It handled a record number of disasters in 2010.

    “The term `100-year event’ really lost its meaning this year.” And we have ourselves to blame most of the time, scientists and disaster experts say. Even though many catastrophes have the ring of random chance, the hand of man made this a particularly deadly, costly, extreme and weird year for everything from wild weather to earthquakes.

    NASA Could Land a Probe on Asteroid That May Hit Earth

    Asteroid 1999 RQ36, which has a one-in-1,000 chance of hitting the Earth before the year 2200, would cause an explosion equivalent to hundreds of nuclear bombs detonating at once. An analysis of its orbit has predicted that it is most likely to hit us on September 24, 2182 but scientists want to collect a sample of the rock to help forecast its trajectory more accurately. If Nasa gives the plan the green light, the spacecraft would blast off in 2106 to map out and collect rock samples from the asteroid, which is 1,800 feet-wide. The planned mission, called OSIRIS-Rex, is one of three finalists in competition for funding as part of the cash-strapped US space agency’s New Frontiers program. The other contenders are missions to the Moon and to Venus respectively and the winner will be announced next year. Plans to land an astronaut on an asteroid will come under discussion at a two-day Nasa workshop in Washington DC starting on Tuesday. Nasa has officially classified RQ36 as a ‘potentially hazardous asteroid’ as it passes within about 280,000 miles of Earth. Its orbit, which brings it closer to Earth, makes it easier to reach than other asteroids.

    This short report on Near-Earth Object (NEO) hazard mitigation strategies was developed in response to a request for information by the U.S. National Research Council’s Space Sciences Board on December 17, 2008 and for the Planetary Defense Conference that took place 27-30 April 2009 in Granada Spain. Although we present example simulations for specific techniques that could be employed to deflect an Earth threatening NEO, our primary goal is to discuss some of the general principles and techniques that would be germane to all NEO deflection scenarios. This report summarizes work that was carried out in early 2009 and extends an earlier, more detailed study carried out in late 2008

    Meteorite Crash Turned Earth Inside Out

    The study, published in the June 3 issue of Nature, examines the devastating effects of meteorite impacts on the Earth’s evolution. Researchers from the University of Toronto and the Geological Survey of Canada studied the remains of a 250-kilometre wide crater in Sudbury, Ontario, known as the Sudbury Igneous Complex, caused by a collision with a Mount Everest-sized meteorite 1.8 billion years ago. They discovered that the meteorite burrowed deep into the Earth’s upper crust – which measures an average of 35 kilometres thick – and caused the upper crust to be buried under several kilometres of melted rock derived from the lower crust.

    The world is not coming to an end on December 21, 2012, the US space agency insisted Monday in a rare campaign to dispel widespread rumors fuelled by the Internet and a new Hollywood movie.

    Sony Pictures’s latest big screen offering “2012″ arrives in theaters on Friday, with a 200-million-dollar production about the end of the world supposedly based on myths backed by the Mayan calendar.

    The doomsday scenario revolves claims that the end of time will come as an obscure Planet X — or Nibiru — heads toward or collides into Earth.The mysterious planet was supposedly discovered by the Sumerians, according to claims by pseudo-scientists, paranormal activity enthusiasts and Internet theorists.

    Some websites accuse NASA of concealing the truth on the wayward planet’s existence, but the US space agency denounced such stories as an “Internet hoax.”"There is no factual basis for these claims,” NASA said in a question-and-answer posting on its website.

    If such a collision were real “astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye,” it added. “Obviously, it does not exist.”

    What Damage Would an Asteroid Impact Cause?

    On the date of June 30th, 1908, at about a quarter after 7:00 a.m., a very mysterious explosion occurred in the skies over Tunguska, Siberia, located in Russia. This explosion happened at anywhere between six-to-eight kilometers from ground zero, and the resultant action in this was to lay waste to a vast region of pine forest of 2,150 square kilometers, felling more than 60 million trees. This was seen as a brilliant burst of light from the inhabitants of the region of 50 kilometers around. Witnesses claim that the explosion was so loud and powerful as to blow-out windows, temporarily blind and knock people to the ground, and sounded like a deafening roar. Had it happened fifty years later, it is surmised by scientists, (placing it within that time-frame of the Cold-War) it would most likely have spurred that nation into a nuclear war.
