“In the Beginning”… You Weren’t There

According to Lawrence Krauss, the author of “A Universe From Nothing”, and many other bestselling books on Physics and Cosmology, the universe began from nothing. The universe being flat, and about 13.7 billions years old, is made up of 30 percent dark matter and 70 percent dark energy. Mr. Krauss says that if we subtract everything in the universe that is visible, including all human life, the Cosmos will not change at all.

In his opinion, this tells us that human beings are “even more insignificant than any of us ever imagined.”

In his famous Youtube video on the universe originating from nothing, Mr. Krauss states: “We are completely irrelevant. Why such a universe would be made for us when we are so irrelevant, is beyond me…”

  • The Bible is the Most Valid Historical Document in the World

The Bible is the Most Valid Historical Document in the World

What makes an ancient document valid and reliable?

Surprisingly, the criteria is the same for all documents of antiquity. According to the “Rules for Evidence”, as administered in all courts of law in the United States:

“Every document, apparently ancient, coming from the proper repository or custody, and bearing on its face no evident marks of forgery, the law presumes to be genuine, and devolves on the opposing party the burden of proving it to be otherwise.”

The burden for showing that an ancient document is not valid, is on the opposing party who makes the objection. This means that any document that verifies the old or new testament scriptures, is considered valid under the rules of evidence, unless it shows the marks of forgery, when it is found in the normal place (church) that such documents would expect to be found, and has been used by the institutions that would normally be in custody of such documents.

  • Origin of the Universe, Which One Takes More Faith?

Origin of the Universe, Which One Takes More Faith?

Atheists often criticize Christians in that they formerly believed that the Sun orbited the earth, prior to the 19th century. Until the recent past, Atheists believed that the universe was eternal, that it has always exited and always will exist.

Today, scientists understand that the Universe had a finite beginning, and eventually it will have an ending.

This leaves us with only two legitimate and logical explanations for the origin of the universe:

    Someone created the universe.
    The Universe created itself.
Which of these two possibilities are more logical?

Let us imagine that the universe arose out of some spontaneous uncontrolled mechanism, whereby it eventually developed, over billions of years of course, into all the life forms that we see present today.

So, we would say: “In the beginning, there was nothing, then it exploded, and became everything that we can see, and everything that we cannot see…”

Or, “In the beginning God created the universe…”

Which of these takes more faith?

  • Internal Proof of the Bible’s Authenticity

Internal Proof of the Bible’s Authenticity

The internal structure of the gospels, proves their authenticity.

It is the contention of Atheists and Bible skeptics, that the Christians accounts of Jesus Christ, found in the four gospels are “fabrications”. Some acknowledge that a man called Jesus did live about 2,000 years ago, but there was nothing remarkable, nor miraculous about his life. Others would have us re-write the entire history of man for the past 2,000 years, claiming that there never was a person called Jesus Christ.

When I read many of the comments made by Atheist’s, I wonder if the people who write these negative comments have actually read and studied the new testament gospels. I wonder if those who write such words have considered the fact that the single life of Jesus Christ has shaped and changed the thinking of the entire world? If He did not exist, and if He is not who He claimed to be, then how is it that He has exercised such tremendous influence upon every facet of human life?

Just as we know that a person has been in a room, by dusting that room for their fingerprints, when we search the four corners of the earth, we find the fingerprints of Jesus Christ everywhere we look.

  • The Historical Reliability of the Bible

The Historical Reliability of the Bible

This month, I have been reading and reviewing several books by leading scholars, on the subject of the reliability of the Bible, as a historical document. As I make comments in my reviews, I often have an opportunity to write an opposing view to Atheist readers and skeptics of the Bible.

The following is an article that I wrote today, in response to criticism that the new testament is not a reliable historical document, because it is of religious nature.

The new testament stands alone as a valid, reliable, historical document. It is laughable that the new testament is rejected by so many, strictly because it is a Christian document and of religious origin. That is to say, “You really cannot trust those Christians you know, they don’t know how to write good eye witness testimony, nor can they keep reliable records.”

The facts is that the new testament scriptures would be held as credible and reliable evidence, according to the rules for evidence by the great history of the legal profession.

What makes an ancient document valid and reliable?

  • Irreducibly Complex Systems “Didn’t Plan to Evolve”

Irreducibly Complex Systems “Didn’t Plan to Evolve”

In his Youtube video, the author of “QualiaSoup”, seeks to make his case that Irreducibly complex organisms are not so irreducibly complex. The author takes the listener through a series of mental gymnastics in which he asks the participant to accept his assumptions that explain why irreducibly complex systems such as the human eye, could have evolved.

In an explanation of the mouse trap, an irreducibly complex system, the author states that by removing the mechanism from the base and attaching it to another base, we have rendered the mechanism non-irreduciblly complex.

In a quickly passed over statement immediately after the mousetrap example, the author states:

“A mousetrap is made with a goal in mind, evolution has no such goals, living mouse catchers didn’t plan to evolve that way…” (Excerpt from Qualiasoup You tube video)

In other words, the complexity of the human eye, was not planned. In evolutionary thought, a human eye, as amazing and complex as it is, just happened by accident. The author asks us to accept that it was never the goal of any irreducibly complex system, to become whatever it became, it just happened to end up that way by chance.

What Happens at the Moment of Death?

What Happens at the Moment of Death?

The thoughts, feelings, emotions and love that we carry with us here on earth, are continued in heaven. We gain the proper perspective on all of our feelings and emotion in heaven and are better able to understand each one, as well as manage and control them. All of our experiences on earth will be remembered in Heaven. Those that we knew and loved on earth, who make it to heaven, will be known and recognized by us, as if we had always known them. Relationships that were close while here on earth, will grow even closer in heaven, where time and the limits of earthly life did not allow all that could have been.

People who we have known and loved on earth but were never quite able to express that love to in words that we desired, will hear our true thoughts and intentions, as communication will then be perfected. Unforgiveness, broken relationships, misunderstandings, will all be mended and healed in heaven and we will be able to enjoy friendships that were lost, forever.

All regrets of past failures in our earthly life will be wiped away, and we will finally come to the realization and acceptance that God has forgiven us, and cleansed us of all our sins. On earth we may hear and claim that we accept God’s forgiveness for our sins, but we are never truly able to experience the total freedom from the guilt of those sin. In heaven, all guilt will be gone. We will never be afraid again. We will never feel lonely or lost, or abandoned. Love will surround us, as it emanates from God’s throne, to every creature in heaven who has been saved by His great love.

  • “Free Exercise of Religion” Not Allowed in North Carolina

“Free Exercise of Religion” Not Allowed in North Carolina

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America

The Supreme court has ruled that prayer specifically referring to the name “Jesus Christ” cannot be spoken during any meeting in Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Where is the correct balance between establishing a particular religion over other religions, and the prohibition of any religion?

If religion is to be allowed at all in the United States, it must be unimpeded by the government. To allow prayer to be conducted during a meeting, but restrict the structure of that prayer, is a clear violation of the free exercise and freedom of speech clauses of the first Amendment of the Constitution.

  • Reasonable Answers For the Existence of God

Reasonable Answers For the Existence of God

One of the barriers for many in believing that God exists, that the Bible is true, or that the God created the universe, are some very good questions that remain unanswered.

For many others who claim to not believe in God, unbelief is a matter of the will, not the lack of sufficient evidence. For a minority of those who are sincerely seeking truth, these genuinely want to know if God exists, but have not found reasonable answers to their questions. Some of those questions that are obstacles to a belief in God, have nothing to do with evidence, but are those perceived contradictions perceived in the mind of those with doubts.

Some of these barriers to belief, are question such as: “How evil could exist, as it does in the world”, if there is an all powerful God?” “If God truly loves human beings as is claimed, why does he allow so much human suffering?” “How could there be a God who truly cares about us, yet allows evil men to carry out their brutal and cruel acts?” “Why do so many bad things happen to so many good people?”

  • Ten Commandments Scroll, Evidence of Biblical Truth

Ten Commandments Scroll, Evidence of Biblical Truth

It seems that there is no end to the attacks made by those who hate God, the Bible and all those who love both. For centuries, scoffers have claimed that the Bible is not reliable, nor is it the word of God. Those who make such claims, fail to make their judgments based on logical deduction.
The basis for validating all historical documents is the same, whether they be of religious or secular origin.

Those documents which are held to be authentic and reliable, must come from a source where the accounts are written by those who have first hand knowledge of the events that took place. The proof that God has revealed himself to man by a special revelation, is the claim of those who recorded the events of scripture.

The fact that all men are of spiritual nature, is evident as seen universally in every culture, and during all periods of man’s existence on the earth. It is apparent that man has an insatiable desire to worship. Whether the object of that adoration is the True and Living God, or some other god or object, depends on the personal revelation of the individual. For those who have had access to the old and new testaments of the Bible, their revelation of God brings them to worship the God of the Bible. In other cultures and societies where the Bible has not been known and read, men create in their best imagination, what they presume God to be. The fact remains that every society from the dawn of man’s existence on the earth, has practiced worship. The truth of these facts logically conclude that man was born with this ability for worship, and that it was not acquired by his environment. The manner and place to which a man may live, lends to the type and direction of his worship, but it does not create the origin of man’s insatiable desire for worship.

  • Atheists Seek to Rewrite History

    Atheists Seek to Rewrite History

There are certain facts in life that cannot be disputed. George Washington was the first president of the United States of America, that is a fact of history. The Civil War brought America to a battle with itself over the issue of slavery. On September 11, 2001, the twin towers in New York tumbled to the ground after a terrorist attack.

In Bethlehem, nearly two thousand years ago, a tiny baby was born who is the Savior of the World.

The facts of Jesus birth, life, death, and resurrection, are a matters of history. There are more documents that prove the facts of Jesus life, death, and resurrection from the dead, than any other event of human history. Why then are various atheists groups trying to re-write history and claim that the gospel accounts of Jesus Christ are a myth?

  • The Ultimate Evolutionary Process

    The Ultimate Evolutionary Process

Men and women debate the theory of Evolution, verses the creation of the universe by an almighty, wise and wonderful God. The Bible ignores the subject of trying to prove the existence of God, for to do so, it claims is “Foolishness”, since the evidence of His existence is all around us in the things that He has made.
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…

The geologic record contains not one shred of evidence that any intermediary species in some evolutionary process, became a different species. Yet the astronomical record reveals that the conditions to which all the Galaxies in the universe were formed, were made under fluctuations in the ratio of temperature to matter that were “perfect” and “just right” for life to exist. If fluctuations in these ratios of temperature to matter were too large, the universe would consist of massive black holes. If the fluctuations were too small, there would never have been the formation of a single star. Scientists call this phenomenon the “Goldilocks Condition”. Someone created this perfect balance between matter and temperature, to make life possible, not just on the Earth, but in the entire Universe, so that the Earth would contain an environment suited for human beings, once they were created and placed here.

How Easy and How Hard It Is, to Go to Heaven.

How Easy and How Hard It Is, to Go to Heaven.

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

If you closely follow the statistics given in the Bible, you come to the conclusion that there are not going to be many who make it to heaven. I say this not as a matter of my own personal opinion, but as an observation of a direct statement by Jesus Christ. Jesus said concerning heaven, that “There are few who find it.” On the other hand, those who will miss heaven: “broad is the way to destruction” and “there are many who will go in by it.”

  • Salvation Made Simple

    Salvation Made Simple

If a person takes the time to investigate the difference between Christianity and all of the other religions of the world, they will notice a profound difference.

In all the religions of the world, each share a common bond: The requirement of that religion for the participant to perform in such a way, in order to be found acceptable.

Only Christianity declares that there is nothing you can do to earn your salvation, except believe the good news. Jesus Christ bore the sins of all people in his own body while on the cross. He performed all the work, paid the full price, and enables anyone who will believe it, the opportunity to have salvation and eternal life.

This free gift of eternal life is not true in all other religions of the world:

  • The Law of Human Nature

    The Law of Human Nature

Have you considered the fact that inside of you there exists a law that you have no control over, that tells you something is right or wrong? We commonly refer to this law as “our conscience”. People who do not have a consciousness that something is wrong are called “Sociopaths”. This is the ability to do absolutely anything, no matter how heinous, and yet feel not guilt or remorse for the act. A person becomes a sociopath by repeatedly doing things that they know are wrong, until they can not longer feel any guilt for having done them.

The real question here is: “Why is this Moral Law present in us?”

After all, none of us is perfect and we should not expect anyone else to be perfect. Yet, when someone acts in a certain way, or does a particular thing that displeases us, we might say “that is wrong”. Why do we evaluate the behavior of someone over and above the actual act itself and determine if it is right or wrong?

There are two principles at work every day in all our lives: One, the fact that people should behave a certain way in a civilized society. Two, The way in which they actually do act.

  • To Gain The Whole World, But Loose Your Soul

To Gain The Whole World, But Loose Your Soul

Matthew 16:26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Like many, I read today’s headlines that described the passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs, with great interest. Although my interest was not in his financial fortune or how he rose to the top of his field. My interest was to scan the words describing his life to see if there was any evidence that he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Jesus said that if we gain the whole world and loose our own soul, what good was our success?

In the end, although the co-founder of Apple was perhaps one of the wealthiest men in the world, without Jesus Christ, it was all a complete loss for him. I want to be clear that I do not know the final outcome of Steve Jobs eternal state, and whether or not he receive Jesus as his Savior before the moment of his death. When I was a newly born Christian in the 70′s, I learned a phrase that came to mind in these moments of contemplation this morning.

“If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

  • What Jesus Said About Hell

    What Jesus Said About Hell

The Bible describes the fact that there is only one way of escape from hell and eternal separation from God: The Cross of Jesus Christ. Whether a person choses to believe that truth or not, determines whether their final destination is; heaven or hell. Like it or not, hell is for real, and unless all of us repent of our sins and turn to Jesus Christ, we will never see heaven.

The new book out by Rob Bell called “Love Wins”, paints God as so loving and merciful that He could not possibly send anyone to hell. What pastor Bell has neglected to include in his thought process and understanding of God, is the fact that God is just as much a God of Justice as is he a God of Love.

Sin is an offense to God and He promised that “The soul that sins, will die eternally”. The promise to Adam was that on the day that he sinned against God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he would die.

Ezekiel 18:4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

  • Three Days in the Grave, Forever Lord of All

Three Days in the Grave, Forever Lord of All

1 Peter 3:18-20 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

The first thing that Jesus did after he was Crucified, was descend into Hell and preach to those who died during the flood of Noah.

Peter reminds us that only eight people believed the Lord at the time Noah was building the ark for 100 years. When the time came to enter the Ark and be sheltered from God’s judgment, only the members of Noah’s family actually believed God and went into the Ark.

It has been estimated by mathematicians, that at the time the flood of Noah occurred, there could have conservatively been over six billion people on the earth. Computing the explosion of population that occurred from the creation of Adam, to the time of Noah, people were living up to nine hundred plus years.
