Prophecy: The Messiah Will be the Passover Lamb

Prophecy: The Messiah Will be the Passover Lamb

It is important in the discussion of the Old Testament prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, to remember that these are not just words on pages, or a computer screen. The Bible claims to be the eternal word of God, and that the words within have their origin from outside of time. These word have the power to bring a human being into everlasting life, if the instructions are heeded and believed. When we speak of Jesus being the Passover Lamb that takes away the sins of the world, we must remember that the intent by the Holy Spirit is that Jesus would become your Passover Lamb.

In this 23rd Old Testament prophecy, Moses calls for the elders of Israel to “Pick a Lamb for themselves…” They had to choose of their own free will, to take the Lamb and then place his blood upon their home in order to be saved. It was not enough to simply know what to do, they had to go out and actually do it themselves to be saved.

In the prophecy of the Passover Lamb, there is a requirement to take action personally. When we get to the New Testament we find that in the fulfillment of Jesus being the Passover Lamb who removes our sin, we must partake of Jesus personally, not casually but with heartfelt forethought.

Prophecy: Salvation Promised to Isaac’s Spiritual Descendants

Prophecy: Salvation Promised to Isaac’s Spiritual Descendants

The purpose of all the Old Testament prophecies, is to build faith in us. Line upon line, verse upon verse, a pattern of promises that we can base our life upon. When we come to the New Testament and read the testimony of those who wrote concerning the events surrounding Jesus Christ, we see that each of these Old Testament predictions are fulfilled in His birth, life, death, and resurrection. When God makes a promise, men may either believe what He has said and trust Him, or they can reject God’s what He has said. For those who believe, and live their lives for Jesus, they are acceptable to God based on their trust. Salvation is really just that simple.

I have often heard it said by people who have read or studied a doctrine or particular verse in the Bible, that they do not like to read any other book or commentary that brings up a subject that they have already studied. I suppose their thinking is that it is rather boring to go over the same subject again and again, rather than to learn something new. It would only be necessary to read the Bible once, if we could grasp everything that we read the first time. Fortunately, even after a lifetime of studying the Bible, there is always something new to be gleaned from every verse of the Bible, regardless of how many times we read it. After studying and teaching the Bible for nearly 30 years, nearly every time I read a verse again, I gain a new insight and depth that I had not understood before.

Prophecy: The Messiah Will Come from Jacob’s Son

Prophecy: The Messiah Will Come from Jacob’s Son

The fact that Jacob is able to see into the future, as the Lord gives him the prophetic ability to see what will happen in “the last days”, is truly amazing. This once deceitful, conniving, self centered man, has been now transformed into God’s man. His former name “Jacob”, the liar, who was guided by his own flesh and impulses, is now called by God “Israel”, one who is guided by God’s Spirit.

Genesis 32:28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

In Genesis chapter 48, we see Jacob now old and nearly blind. His physical senses are greatly diminished, but his spiritual abilities are greatly enhanced by God. Being nearly blind, he asks his son Joseph to come before him, in advance of the other brothers, to pronounce his prophetic word for Joseph’s two son’s Ephraim and Manasseh.

Prophecy: The Messiah Preceded by a Forerunner

Prophecy: The Messiah Preceded by a Forerunner

The Forerunner of the Messiah will prepare the hearts of the people to receive Him.

    Old Testament Prediction:

Malachi 4:6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

    New Testament Fulfillment:

Luke 1:16-17 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, “to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Prophecy: The Messiah’s Body, Prepared For You

Prophecy: The Messiah’s Body, Prepared For You

In order for God to be able to justify the sacrifice that Jesus was desiring to make of his body for all of man’s sin, Jesus would have to take the body of a human being and live amongst us as one of us. The old testament book of Ruth leaves us with a clear example of the fact that only a close relative has the right to be the redeemer of a family member. In order for Jesus to offer the sacrifice of his life, the Father prepared a body for him before the foundation of the world. Jesus is often spoken of as “The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”.

Revelation 13:8 “All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

  • The Prophecy of “Limited Time” For Salvation

The Prophecy of “Limited Time” For Salvation

In the old testament, the Lord described a time period in which He would accept man’s repentance and turning to the Messiah’s sacrifice for his salvation. That time period is not forever, nor will the Lord wait any longer than the lifespan of any man. If a person should die without receiving the Messiah’s sacrifice as the payment for their sins, this person will be lost forever, with no hope of redemption.

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

The Grace of God, though it is far reaching, long and with great patience, it does have a limit. God will not “strive” with man over his sin and need for salvation forever.

The time period in which God will hear a sinners repentance, and plea for salvation, is now, before any of us die, before the Lord Jesus returns to make final judgment on the world. If anyone should be obstinate and refuse the Lord’s generous offer of forgiveness, there will come a time when it will be too late, and there will be no right of appeal.

  • The Relevance of Knowing Bible Prophecy in the Last Days

The Relevance of Knowing Bible Prophecy in the Last Days

In Alexandria Egypt, 70 Hebrew scholars were commissioned to translate the books of the old testament from Hebrew, into the Greek language, so that the Jews of the world could read their own Bible. These 70 scholars is where the term “Septuagint” (70) came from. So named for the 70 scholars who oversaw the translation from Hebrew to Greek.

This translation was made about 285 B.C.. Today we have many, many, copies of the Septuagint in our possession that contains all of the books of the Bible from the old testament that are identical to our current Bible today. All of the books that contain these 365 old testament prophecies in my new book “365Prophecies”, that is due out soon, are a part of the Greek Septuagint that was translated in 285 B. C.

This means that we know for certain that all of the old testament books and the predictions made in these 365 prophecies, were made at least before the date 285 B. C. The fact is, we know from history that the prophets who wrote these predictions, such as Isaiah, who wrote 131 of the 365 old testament prophecies, wrote them more than 600 years before Jesus was born.

Prophecy of the Messiah “Numbered with Criminals”

Prophecy of the Messiah “Numbered with Criminals”

The Messiah will be numbered with others also called “criminals”, at His death.

    Old Testament Prediction:

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

    New Testament Fulfillment:

Luke 23:32-33 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Isaiah’s Prophecy of the Man of Sorrows

Isaiah’s Prophecy of the Man of Sorrows

Isaiah wrote in vivid detail of the coming Messiah, and in a way that no other old testament prophet has equalled. In one of these specific prophecies that describe the Messiah as being a “Man of Sorrows”, we gain some understanding of the thoughts that Jesus had as He contemplated going to the Cross for us.

Isaiah 53:3 describes the fact that Messiah will find great sorrow and bitter grief in the hardness of men’s hearts and their inability to repent and receive Him. He shall be filled with great personal grief as He contemplates the cost required in the redemption of all men.

The Messiah’s Ministry Will Validate His Identity

The Messiah’s Ministry Will Validate His Identity

While I am completing my new book on the 365 old testament prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, from time to time I will include a few excerpts from that book here on B.P.U. The completed work will be much more detailed and extensive. The prophecies that Jesus fulfilled give us both credible evidence for our faith, but also important information that we can share with others who have doubts about the identity of Jesus Christ as God and the only Savior of the world.

The Messiah will have a ministry of healing to validate his identity.

    Old Testament Prediction:

Isaiah 35:5-6 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.

    New Testament Fulfillment:

Matthew 11:1-6 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities. And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”

    Jesus Was Humiliated For You

    Jesus Was Humiliated For You

The Messiah will be stripped of His clothing and be naked before the world.

    Old Testament Prediction:

Psalms 22:17-18 “I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.”

    New Testament Fulfillment:

Matthew 27:35 “Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments…”

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 35

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 35

There were seven feasts that the Lord proclaimed for the nation of Israel. The language of Leviticus chapeter 23 is that these are “The feasts of the Lord… These are My feasts…”

Leviticus 23:1-2 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.
    These seven feasts are:

    Passover
    Unleavened Bread
    First Fruits
    Pentecost
    Trumpets
    Atonement
    Tabernacles
It is interesting that Jesus perfectly fulfilled each of the first four feasts of Israel in His first coming to earth.

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 34

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 34

The 34th old testament prophecy that Jesus fulfilled comes from the second part of the prophecy of Leviticus 17:11. God took very careful steps to insure that the reader of the old testament would understand the seriousness of sin and the single remedy to remove the sin of man by Jesus Blood

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 33

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 33

The 33rd old testament prophecy that Jesus fulfilled is from the book of Leviticus, chapter 17.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

In this verse of scripture, the Holy Spirit is endeavoring to teach us the principle of knowing Jesus by experience, not just by casual intellectual knowledge.

In order to obtain eternal life, a person must come to an intellectual knowledge of who Jesus is and what His death and resurrection mean. Of even greater importance is the necessity for each person to intimately receive Jesus into their heart.

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 32

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 32

In the 32nd old testament prophecy that Jesus fulfilled, we see that the sacrifice for the sin offering was to be killed “outside the camp”.

Leviticus 16:27 The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried outside the camp. And they shall burn in the fire their skins, their flesh, and their offal.

When Jesus offered up His life for all who are born on the earth, the new testament records that they took Him outside the city of Jerusalem to a place described as “the skull”.

Matthew 27:33,35 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,… Then they crucified Him…

Paul records in the book of Hebrews that according to the old testament example, the bodies of those animals that were being offered for the sins of those who brought the animals to the priest, took the sacrifice outside the camp. The idea was that this sacrifice for sins was a “reproach”.

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 31

The 365 Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled: Prophecy 31

The 31st old testament prophecy that Jesus fulfilled is one of the most exciting and informative prophecies of all 365 Jesus fulfilled. Many people do not realize the intended similarities between the old testament tabernacle and the completed work that Jesus accomplished on the Cross.

It was the purpose of the Holy Spirit to make the Tabernacle in the desert a picture of the future work of Jesus salvation when He arrived on the earth thousands of years later.

The tabernacle itself had just once entrance. Jesus said that He was the one entrance into heaven.
The first thing that a person would find once they entered the Tabernacle was the Brazen altar where the sacrifice was to be made. You could go no further into the Tabernacle until you first made your sacrifice for your sins. There is no admittance into the presence of God until you first have your sins dealt with on the altar of the Cross where Jesus removed all of your sins.
