Being Hurt By Christians and Other Pitiable Plights

Being Hurt By Christians and Other Pitiable Plights

I was feeling sorry for myself the other day once again due to poor treatment by other believers when I realized that the Lord did not send us to the righteous of the world but to the sinner and the sick. By it’s very nature, the gospel message about Jesus Christ is for the very worst of this world. Jesus said:

Mark 2:17 … “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

I think that we have the idea, or at least the hope, that when we became a Christian we would immediately have many true and faithful friends. Those who would always be there for us. Those who would never let us down, those who would understand us when we faltered and failed. Then we woke up one morning and realized that all those who have found Jesus and are trying to follow Him, are still very imperfect beings.

He Waits For Us to Want Him

He Waits For Us to Want Him

There is a doctrine found in the Bible that is called “Prevenient Grace”. It says that before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man. The only reason that any man can be saved and know God is that first the Lord must have pursued that man. If today you know Jesus Christ and have a personal relationship with Him, it is because He first pursued you. At some point after hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit, you responded in faith and believed that Jesus died for you and accepted Him as your Savior. The act of finding you so that you could respond is all the Lord’s and none of ours. John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. If you have an urge to know the Lord, that urging originated with God, not you. This is important that we understand this basic principle in our salvation, that we “Received it” from the Lord, we did not earn it or merit it. 1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? The entire work of salvation from beginning to end comes from the Lord, not from men. If a man is saved and has his sins forgiven, it is because the Lord gave him the ability to see his sin, repent and receive eternal life.

How Did God Create The Universe?

How Did God Create The Universe?

The Bible clearly teaches that God created the Universe “Ex Nihilo”, out of nothing. Before the Lord began speaking the universe into existence, nothing existed. Psalms 33:6-9 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth… 9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. When John began his eyewitness account of Jesus, he begins by telling us that “All things were made by Jesus…” John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. The context of John chapter one is that when he says “all things” John is talking about the entire Universe. Later in the book of Colossians, Paul supports this claim by describing the specific parts of the Universe that Jesus created: Colossians 1:16-17 For by (Jesus) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

There is a Man Sitting on the Throne of God

There is a Man Sitting on the Throne of God

I personally believe that the reason that many people did not recognize Jesus after His resurrection, was that His form was drastically altered by the scars from His beating and crucifixion. On the road to Emmaus, the disciples did not know that it was Jesus who had been walking along with them until they stopped to eat and Jesus reached out and handed them bread to eat. It must have been at that moment that they saw the scars on His wrists where the nails had penetrated Him.
Luke 24:13-15 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.
Luke 24:30-31 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight

The Leading Reason People Reject Jesus: Us.

The Leading Reason People Reject Jesus: Us.

The leading cause of people not accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior is Christians. Living in these last days, that really should not be a shock to many of us. As Jesus church we so often fail to display those characteristics that Jesus had, the chief of which is Love. I have had some of my own experience with the lack of love from fellow Christians. Abandonment, betrayal and gossip that has destroyed my reputation and my peace. All for which I did nothing wrong, those wrongs only imagined in the minds of the betrayers. When people see us as believers, they should see a glimpse of Jesus. Least of which is the sacrificial, others oriented love that Jesus said would be the mark of whether we truly knew Him or not.

The Grace Missing in Church Today

The Grace Missing in Church Today

In Bible teaching churches of America today, there are two important principles that are taught constantly: “Grace and Mercy”. Mercy is not receiving something that we deserve. As sinners, all human beings deserve judgment and punishment. Because of God’s mercy, He was not willing that any person should receive judgment or punishment for their sin, so He sent His only Son Jesus Christ, to die for us at the place of judgment. When any person hears, believes and lives as if they believe this, they have all of their sins removed and there no longer remains any judgment awaiting that person. This is what mercy is all about.

Grace is Receiving all those things that we do not deserve. As sinners, all human beings are separated from God by their sin and have no hope of eternal life. Because of God’s Grace, He wanted to be able to show His Love and Goodness towards us. When we put all of of trust in Jesus Christ to remove our sins, and give us eternal life, we then are able to receive all the manifold blessings the Lord has always desired to give us.

The Inner Law: Proof of Creation

The Inner Law: Proof of Creation

Over the course of past centuries, there have been amazing reports of missionaries who have penetrated the deepest inner most places of the jungle to find isolated tribes of people. Once the missionaries had completed their translation of the native language and could communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ, on many occasions the leaders of those tribes told the translators that they had already known of the Jesus that the Bible speaks of, but they did not know His name. How is it that they could have know about Jesus without anyone ever telling them about Him? When asked how this was possible, the native people explained that they knew inside, in the inner heart, that there was a creator and that they were in need of a Savior. They were aware that there was something obviously wrong with the inner man that was constantly doing wrong.

What Does It Mean To ‘Pray In Jesus Name?’

What Does It Mean To ‘Pray In Jesus Name?’

Jesus said: “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it” John 14:13-14 If we add the phrase “In Jesus name” to the end of a prayer, is the Lord is bound to give us whatever we ask for? This is a very interesting question, even for those who have know Jesus for quite some time. Is the name of Jesus a magical word that if added to a prayer, grants the petitioner their requests? If you carefully examine the New Testament, you will see that none of the prayers in those scriptures have the phrase “In Jesus name” at the end of each prayer. What did Jesus mean when He asked us to use His name when we pray? If you think about it, to come in the name of someone carries with it the idea that we are coming with the authority of that person, if they themselves were a person of some authority. When Peter spoke to the handicapped man in Acts 3:6 he told him “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” Peter understood that he was speaking to this man’s need based on the authority of the one who had sent him, Jesus, not on his own authority.

    Righteous Judgment v. Our Perception

    Righteous Judgment v. Our Perception

I suppose that it is a product of my gradual growth in Jesus that I have began to be aware of a principle that I have observed in myself and almost all other followers of the Lord. The fact is that we are really good as pronouncing judgement on others. We seem to be able to observe, analyze and articulate what is happening in the heart of someone by what we observe. We can see the particular behavior of another person and immediately begin to understand what kind of person they are and why they are doing what they are doing. Or can we? It seems to me that it is a byproduct of the fall of man that we easily observe faults in others but find it very hard to see or even admit our own faults. We desire mercy and grace from others for ourselves when we fail, but when we see others fail it is often very hard for us to show them mercy and grace.

    Rejoice Highly Favored One

    Rejoice Highly Favored One

Sometimes, this is the thought process that we go through with the Lord, we think that we have to be “Good Enough” before the Lord will bless us. We have to be “worthy” enough for the Lord to bless us. We have to somehow “earn his favor” or We need to “appease him” with a sacrifice as if he was the rain god that needs a sacrifice before he will give us rain. The reality is that you are “highly favored by the Lord” right now if you have given your life to Jesus Christ. In fact, no other creation under heaven is as highly favored as you! To which of the angels did the Father ever give his Son to die? To which of the angels did the Son ever humble himself and become a servant to? To which of the angels did the Holy Spirit ever speak to so softly and sweetly of the love that God has for the sinner.

Not Because of Who You Are, But Because of Who He Is

Not Because of Who You Are, But Because of Who He Is

How does one gain the favor of the Lord and experience His blessing in their life? Have you wondered why others seem to find blessing and happiness in their lives while you have merely observed it from a distance without really obtaining for yourself? Oswald Chambers said “God does not tell us what He is going to do, He reveals who He is”. It is through the things we go through in our life, where we wonder what we are supposed to do, that through those uncertain days, we discover who the Lord really is. Chuck Smith, founder of Calvary Chapel observed; “When the church becomes what the Lord wants the church to be, then the Lord will do for the church what He has been wanting to do for the church all along.” The Lord wants to work in your life. He wants to demonstrate His power. He is wanting to demonstrate His greatness. The Lord wants to show to the world how great His power and love is. What He needs is a heart that is “Completely Towards Him”. A heart completely towards Him is all that is required for us to receive the fullness and the richness of Gods blessings.

    The Times of the Signs

    The Times of the Signs

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. -Daniel 12:4 Today we do live in a day when many “run to and fro, and [the availability of] knowledge certainly has been increased. Thanks to the Internet and the “alternative press,” it is now much easier to find out what is really going on. There are excellent web pages, private newsletters, and talk radio sources that are doing a remarkably effective job for the diligent and concerned. There are so many things that are now emerging on the world scene which are Biblically relevant that we tend to view our present horizon as the “times of the signs”! Check them out and judge for yourself.

    Battle By Worship

    Battle By Worship

When Jehoshaphat found himself up against a threat from the nations of Moab and Ammon, his first reaction was not unlike what our own reaction is when we are up against a serious threat, fear. Then Jehoshaphat did something else that most of never think of doing, “he set himself to seek the Lord and gather the people to sit before the the Lord”When fear was all around him, when the enemy was greater in power than his own, Jehoshaphat did the most powerful thing that he could do, nothing. He took his fear and his problem to the Lord and cried out to Him for help. Now either this was the most impotent and cowardly act a man could do or it was the bravest and most intelligent act that a man could do. In this world people value confrontation, power and great self effort. In the Kingdom of God, the most powerful weapon that person has is the wisdom to do nothing and simply wait on the Lord.

    Journey Into Eternity

    Journey Into Eternity

Will we live again? Or, does our life end forever at the grave? If we live again, what is the nature of our existence when this life on earth is through? Will we retain our memories and will we remember our personal identity from this life? These questions arise in the minds of almost every one of us when we contemplate our own death. This book will explore the question of our personal immortality in the light of the astonishing new medical and scientific discoveries of the last several decades, as well as the powerful truths revealed by the Scriptures about the nature of our personal journey toward immortality. The remarkable evidence explored in this book will demonstrate that we are all on a personal journey into eternity. We are destined to live forever in an immortal body, and that our eternal life offers possibilities finer than all our dreams.

Forgiveness: Forgive or Forget It by Keith Green

Forgiveness: Forgive or Forget It by Keith Green

There I was, seated in row 17, flying from Dallas to Los Angeles. I began to day-dream, thinking about a friend of mine who had once treated me (what I thought was) unfairly in a financial dealing we’d had. As I turned the whole incident over in my mind, I remembered how I had originally consoled my bruised feelings by thinking to myself, “Well, that’s okay, it’s God’s money anyway-God’ll deal with him.”
But flying on that jet through the night, I started to get an uneasy feeling inside, almost like vengeance. All of a sudden, it wasn’t enough to put the whole thing in God’s hands. I found myself thinking, “I sure hope the Lord brings that whole thing up when so-and-so stands before Him on the day of judgment.”

How I Found God and Peace With my Atheist Brother Peter Hitchens

How I Found God and Peace With my Atheist Brother Peter Hitchens

During his teenage years and early 20s, Peter Hitchens lost his faith and rebelled against everything he had been brought up to believe in. Here, in a moving and thought-provoking account from his controversial new book, he describes his spiritual journey back to God – and the end of his feud with his brother
I set fire to my Bible on the playing fields of my Cambridge boarding school one bright, windy spring afternoon in 1967. I was 15 years old. The book did not, as I had hoped, blaze fiercely and swiftly.
Only after much blowing and encouragement did I manage to get it to ignite at all, and I was left with a disagreeable, half-charred mess.
Most of my small invited audience drifted away long before I had finished, disappointed by the anticlimax and the pettiness of the thing. Thunder did not mutter.

Prayer Boosts the Power of Forgiveness

Prayer Boosts the Power of Forgiveness

The power of prayer has long been controversial, but a new study in a leading psychological journal finds some of the first scientific evidence that it truly works – at least on the person doing the praying.

While previous studies have looked largely at the people being prayed for, investigators flipped the research model to examine those who personally engage in the religious practice. They found that even a single prayer for a loved one led to increased self-reported willingness to be forgiving of that person.

Does God Hear the Prayers of Sinners?

Does God Hear the Prayers of Sinners?

Remember that Jesus died for the sins of THE WHOLE WORLD. This means that at the Cross, Jesus was paying for the sins of every person who has ever been born on the earth. In reality, all of your sins have already been judged and paid for by Jesus. All you need to do today is ask Jesus to forgive you of all of your sins, and be willing to turn from them and to follow Him for the rest of your life, and He will give you ETERNAL LIFE.
