    Atheistic Ignorance of God

    Atheistic Ignorance of God

Sometimes I think atheists are simply having arguments with themselves – or, more precisely, with phantoms bred by their own ignorance. It’s easy to see why atheism does not make more headway, even in modern secular society: Once atheists begin to spell out the sort of deity they are rejecting, it becomes clear that they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Julian Baggini, author of the Very Short Introduction of Atheism (perhaps the only one you need) and founding editor The Philosopher’s Magazine, is a very clever and amiable guy — under normal circumstances. But have a look at this piece, which appeared as the lead opinion piece in the most recent Saturday edition of The Independent, the liberal UK broadsheet paper. When an atheist pens a piece with the title, ‘If science has not actually killed God, it has rendered Him unrecognisable’, one wonders which screws have become loose.

Like others on this blog, I am always bemused by the ways in which atheists strive to say convincing things about a deity in whose existence they supposedly do not believe.

    Fulfilled Prophecy and Mathematical Impossibility

    Fulfilled Prophecy and Mathematical Impossibility

Unique among all books ever written, the Bible accurately foretells specific events-in detail-many years, sometimes centuries, before they occur. Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. (The remaining 500 or so reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.) Since the probability for any one of these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance averages less than one in ten (figured very conservatively) and since the prophecies are for the most part independent of one another, the odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 102000 (that is 1 with 2000 zeros written after it)! God is not the only one, however, who uses forecasts of future events to get people’s attention. Satan does, too. Through clairvoyants (such as Jeanne Dixon and Edgar Cayce), mediums, spiritists, and others, come remarkable predictions, though rarely with more than about 60 percent accuracy, never with total accuracy. Messages from Satan, furthermore, fail to match the detail of Bible prophecies, nor do they include a call to repentance. The acid test for identifying a prophet of God is recorded by Moses in Deuteronomy 18:21-22. According to this Bible passage (and others), God’s prophets, as distinct from Satan’s spokesmen, are 100 percent accurate in their predictions. There is no room for error. As economy does not permit an explanation of all the Biblical prophecies that have been fulfilled, what follows in a discussion of a few that exemplify the high degree of specificity, the range of projection, and/or the “supernature” of the predicted events. Readers are encouraged to select others, as well, and to carefully examine their historicity.

    International Atheists Declare Their Values

    International Atheists Declare Their Values

The Atheist Alliance International (AAI) is an organization founded in 1992, with about 50 member organizations from 15 nations. AAI held its conference this month in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference was on Gods & Politics, looking at the issue of religion and government and challenges facing non-believers. It hosted a wide range of speakers, including Richard Dawkins, James Randi, Dan Barker, PZ Myers, and one of my favorites, author A.C. Grayling who wrote Meditations for the Humanist. One result of the conference was the Copenhagen Declaration on Religion in Public Life. The declaration was as follows:

Answers to 7 Positions Held by Atheists

Answers to 7 Positions Held by Atheists

I have not seen sufficient evidence for God’s existence: To say you haven’t seen sufficient evidence for God’s existence is a more intellectually honest position, but it is really a form of agnosticism which maintains that God is not known or knowable, while admitting the possibility of God’s existence.
If a person has not seen sufficient evidence for God, then it means he has not yet seen all evidence, and there might be sufficient evidence. This would mean that God may indeed exist, so the person is really an agnostic concerning God, which makes his atheist position inconsistent with his statement.

    Battle By Worship

    Battle By Worship

When Jehoshaphat found himself up against a threat from the nations of Moab and Ammon, his first reaction was not unlike what our own reaction is when we are up against a serious threat, fear. Then Jehoshaphat did something else that most of never think of doing, “he set himself to seek the Lord and gather the people to sit before the the Lord”When fear was all around him, when the enemy was greater in power than his own, Jehoshaphat did the most powerful thing that he could do, nothing. He took his fear and his problem to the Lord and cried out to Him for help. Now either this was the most impotent and cowardly act a man could do or it was the bravest and most intelligent act that a man could do. In this world people value confrontation, power and great self effort. In the Kingdom of God, the most powerful weapon that person has is the wisdom to do nothing and simply wait on the Lord.

’2nd face’ on Shroud Points to Supernatural Origin

Jerome R. Corsi Scientists examining the Shroud of Turin since the restoration that began in 2000 have found a “second face” on its reverse “hidden side,” a discovery they believe adds evidence to the argument it is not a medieval painting or  photographic rendering. As part of the restoration undertaken in the summer of 2002, [...]

Jesus Soon Return Seen in the Night Sky?

Jesus Soon Return Seen in the Night Sky?

A Christian minister who uses NASA tracking of solar and lunar eclipses in his teaching of the great event is now explaining how at least one constellation is an outright declaration of the “Second Coming.”
In a new DVD series called “Studies in Our Hebrew Roots,” Mark Biltz, pastor of El Shaddai Ministries in Bonney Lake, Wash., revisits what he and some others believe is the biblical plan of God on display in the physical heavens.
Probe the heavens like you never have before with this fascinating 8-DVD set that also explores more of Christianity’s Hebrew roots!
In his videotaped lectures, Biltz focuses on a star called Arcturus, which is mentioned in the Old Testament Book of Job: “Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.” (Job 9:9)

Archaeologist Jonathan L. Reed has prepared a personal list of the “top ten” archaeological discoveries in Palestine and Israel that impact on our understanding of theChristian Scriptures and the life of Yeshua of Nazareth (Jesus Christ). 1 The first five objects in his list are of specific objects with direct or indirect links to the Christian Scriptures:

The Compatibility of Science and the Bible

The Compatibility of Science and the Bible

The Bible’s account of beginnings cannot be tested in a laboratory, so secular scientists—and even some Christians—believe it is not science and must be classified as religion.

Secular scientists claim that their view of beginnings (evolution) can be tested in a laboratory, so their view is scientific. For instance, they point to mutated fruit flies or speciation observed in the field (such as new species of mosquitoes or fish).

But this is where many people are confused—what is meant by “science” or “scientific.”

Before we get caught up in a debate about whether the Bible or evolution is scientific, we have learned to ask, “Could you please define what you mean by science?” The answer usually reveals where the real problem lies.

    Intelligent Design Challenges Evolutionary Theory

    Intelligent Design Challenges Evolutionary Theory

Dr. Michael J. Behe: ID is an umbrella term for scientists and philosophers who are beginning to question and separate out the claims of an implicit materialist philosophy that have grown up alongside, indeed almost inside, modern science.

We are told by “Science” with a capital “s” that the universe is just matter and energy in motion, but it turns out that actual evidence of science does not necessarily support that philosophical claim.

More specifically in my field of biology, the ID movement is beginning to question the claims of neo-Darwinian evolutionary theory and to propose that a better scientific explanation of the data is some kind of intelligent cause rather than random variation and natural selection.

Religion and Science: Conflict or Harmony?

Religion and Science: Conflict or Harmony?

A thoughtful person turned me onto the writings of C.S. Lewis, which was quite a revelation in terms of the depth of intellectual argument that undergirds a belief in a creator God and the existence of moral law. I began to realize that even in science, where I had spent most of my time, there were pointers to God that I had paid no attention to that were actually pretty interesting.

One obvious one, although maybe it’s not so obvious, is that there is something instead of nothing. There’s no reason there should be anything at all. Wigner’s wonderful phrase “the unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics” also comes to mind – Eugene Wigner, the Nobel laureate in physics, talking about the amazing thing about the whole study of physics is that mathematics makes sense; it can describe the properties of matter and energy in simple, even beautiful, laws. Why should that be? Why should gravity follow an inverse square law? Why should Maxwell’s five equations describe electromagnetism in very simple terms, and they actually turn out to be true? A thoughtful and interesting question. This is certainly one that Einstein also wrote about quite significantly.
